Hello peoples,
I have watched and stalked this forum for three years now - and here I am, finally making myself known - because I need to talk to people that have more knowledge about bed bugs than me and that might understand my situation.
About two years ago, I lived in a house that was infested with bedbugs. Although I never had bites, my boyfriend would get bitten when he slept over, as did other people in the house.
It was thoroughly treated by an exterminator and I did everything I could to ensure we followed all of his suggestions. All of my items were sealed for months in the cold, washed or treated and so were the other people I lived with. Shortly thereafter, I moved to a different apartment and stayed there for a little over a year. When I moved in, all items were rewashed and treated or replaced, such as the mattress/furniture (because I am a little neurotic). I am now in a yet another new apartment.
However, since my bed bug experience, which really traumatized me, I have been extremely worried that I still have bed bugs. I often feel a creepy-crawling feeling on different spots on my body- as if there is a bug crawling on me- but there NEVER is (that I can see at least). Also, I get these strange bites/marks on my back probably once or twice a week- usually during the day.They are white-ish and look like small mosquito bites and will be spread across my back (ie. one on shoulder, one on upper spine, one on lower hip). They itch (but not horribly) and become inflamed and red if I itch them. However, they usually disappear within the day or by the next day.
I am constantly asking my boyfriend (who has none of these symptoms) to look at my back when this happens and take pictures. I will then proceed to check my bed (which is new and has a cover on it) and the sofa (which is dark green leather and hard to check for marks). I have not seen bugs ever, but I can't imagine anything else that these marks/bites could be. They don't look like fleas, it's not scabies, it's not ring worm and it is not severe enough to be hives or some allergic reaction. I have never had sensitive skin until after this experience. My family thinks I am crazy. I don't know if I am. I am wondering if anyone thinks these sound like they could be bed bugs or if they have any other suggestions. I am desperate because this fear/paranoia is affecting my life and my happiness. I really want to get into a solution - and I can't do it on my own!

From my long experience about BBs feeding, it's really hard to feel them crawling on your skin. So, if you fell something crawling on your, probably is not a BB...

That's not typical of BBs...
and the sofa (which is dark green leather and hard to check for marks).
Dark backgrounds may be hard to check for marks, but they are extremely easy to check for eggs, ureic spots or unfed nymphs.
it is not severe enough to be hives or some allergic reaction. I have never had sensitive skin until after this experience.
I've never been allergic to cats before my allergy to them started, and I've not been allergic again to them since it ended.... but for about 30 yrs it was a sort of curse for the cat lover I am.
Allergic reactions are so strange and unpredictable...I am wondering if anyone thinks these sound like they could be bed bugs or if they have any other suggestions.
No, they don't.
Some of other possible suggestions:
- a carpet beetles problem
- a woodworm mites problem
- a betilid wasps problem
- allergy to house mites
- allergy to something else that's not arthropods related
