How long does a bedbug tipically live? If they can live a year without feeding, surely they can be a pretty ripe old age...

Our 'Minister of Information' Hopelessnomo will confirm this, but I have read that well fed bugs live less than a year (6-10mos). It's only dormant ones that can survive longer due to minimal metabolic activity during dormancy. Apparently environmental heat will alter this time frame as well, with a warmer, but still hospitable environment shortening lifespan and hastening reproductive cycles.

I'll add that between my reading and personal experience with captured adults and older nymphs, that it's not every adult that lives 18 months without food. I suspect 2-3 months is a typical limit for many bugs. But being bugs they are variable in their behaviours and adaptive traits so one has to presume the 'worst'.
