I live in East Boston, just had a bed bug dog who alerted on our couches and my bed. Also found one on the ceiling of my shower which the dog handler said most likely came from the apt next door. I plan on throwing out the couches and isolating my bed, but when I talked to my landlord he said he would come spray the place himself. Does anyone know whether or not he is obligated to get a licensed PCO for treatment? I know Boston has some of the stricter bed bug regulations and I have a feeling his treatment isn't going to work. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the laws in Boston but I'm pretty sure he can't use actual Pesticides unless he's a licensed PCO?? I could be wrong though. He can spray Raid and that type of stuff 'till the cows come home, but that won't do much.

Check with your local tenant/landlord agency and get some advice. From what I've read self-treating is not usually a good idea!

Just called the Inspectional Services Department of the City of Boston, and they told me my landlord is required by law to hire a licensed PCO, so good news I guess.

Not only that. If you have the BISD people come in, they confirm a violation, they will require the landlord to have the PCO treat all adjacent units (above, below, all sides) and inspect the entire building. It is probably worth getting them to confirm the problem and order this process.
