I recently moved into an apt and learned that the bldg had (has?) bedbugs. The landlord says they had a exterminator come and treat the whole bldg, at least 2 sessions. Then followed up with a K9 inspection and cleared the property. And he says there will be prevenitive spraying quarterly. BUT, Im nervous and considering breaking my lease and getting the hell out. Im also angry because they only brought this information up after I sighned a lease and payed the first month and deposit. I guess my question(s) is do I take his word and risk it? can you really get rid of them for good? Can anyone relate to this situation? This is my first experience with this issue and I'm freaking out.

There was a NY Times article a while back where a lawyer said that every big building in NYC has had to deal with BB. Some people have taken this (erroneously, I'd guess) as as "every building in NYC" has BB crawling over everything (therefore, we're not doing anything). Best I'd advise is to find out what neighbors say about the building's response to these and other problems. Look over the building itself and try to judge if it's run by people who have their act together. I hope this helps.

Are you in NYC? If so, the landlord should have provided a notice before the lease was signed. See this post.
