The landlord is having his handyman do the exterminating for my apartment. Handyman says he used to be an exterminator, but does not have a license right now. He and his assistant did a treatment yesterday with Temprid and Alpine dust, and he says he will be using Gentrol, too. They will be back to treat for the next 4 Mondays. He says he has rid units of much worse infestations than mine.

He seems to be misinformed on some things, like he thinks that they "don't get very far from their food source" (then why are they in the couch?), and he thinks they don't go after animals.

I know I can't use my steamer, as it might dilute the poison. I can still put down DE, and wash the bedclothes and clothes in hot water. Is there anything else I can do?

I would not apply DE. Your guy is already using a dust.

    I would avoid self-treating altogether.

(It would be illegal here in NYC for your landlord to send in an unlicensed pesticide applicator, but I am not sure where you are or whether this is an issue there.)

As I said to you in the other thread, I recommend following up in the same thread you already started, rather than starting a new one each time. It helps us keep track of your story and see what's already been said.

Thanks for replying. Sorry about multiple threads, I just learned how to follow them with email today.

OMG. I spoke to a neighbor that lives in my building. The handyman knocked on doors and told tenants what to look for. She looked under her mattress and found two. I loaned her my steamer and gave her some DE. Her treatment starts on Monday. She didn't know she had them, since she didn't have an allergic reaction. She and I will try to get the landlord to re-open the laundry facility. He had locked it when it was vandalized.

'Scuse me while I panic all over again.
