My landlord has been using Knockout Pest Control for the bedbug problem in our building in Astoria, which has spread to my apartment. Does anyone here have experience with them? Apparently they ask you to bag all your possessions. I got some written instructions from them, but it's not clear exactly what their protocol is or how long they expect you to keep things bagged.

knockout is a good compnay, please call them to discuss/clarify their expectations, I tell my customers to bag, and while we are treating to take all clothes, blankets etc to laundry to have cleaned.

    astorian,

It is important to ask, when bagging, when items will be removed from bags. It sounds like you are talking about being told to bag more than just laundry, and pestmasterny is referring to just that.

    This FAQ may help: http://bedbugger.com/2007/03/27/faq-how-do-i-prepare-for-pest-control-treatment/

pestmasterny, I gather you are a PCO. Do you want to tell us how you know Knockout is a good company?

thanks nobugsonme. yes - i am being told to clear out all drawers and closets and to bag basically everything. so far i just have written instructions from the company given to me by my super and have not had direct contact with the company, but i do plan to call them. it sounds like other tenants who have already gone through the process were not given clear instructions about when items should be removed from the bags, so i do have some concerns about the company and would also like to know why pestmasterny think they're a good company. or whether anyone else has had a positive/negative experience with them.

Knockout is a Long Island based company a few miles away from me. The owner has been in the industry for some time. They have a reputation as being a good company. That being said, I feel it all depends on the tech or techs that do the treatment. But I don't hear much by way of bad things about them. Read over the prep sheet and give them a ring if you have questions.

Dealing with large company's or lets say companies with more than a few technicians although good for all around decent service and dependablity do not give technicians enough time, nor do these technicians specialize in such a difficult situation. Usually in most very large companies you will have 1 or 2 technicians who truelly have the ability and education to deliver true long lasting results. Then again when you are "working for," a company such as these, there are many factors which prevent you from working to the upmost best of your ability. BedBugs is not a widely advisable commercial service that should be sold to the lowest bidder nor the largest company to take care of this problem in very high volumes. A BedBug specialist and one that is talented enough to ware that title is not easy to come by. Stick to companies with above than average results specifically in BedBugs and not in general pest control. Ask for a referance or 3, make some calls ask some questions. Although knockout is decently large company I would like to question just how many have the passion and even if they do, have the energy or time, for they still have 8 more stops to do the same day? Do they really truelly wana help or just cover their overhead?

bagging was extremely important to me. i bagged everything (clothing) for near a year. that was my paranoia. but at least 5 months. two weeks after my last pco treatment and i began to trust that maybe, just maybe, i was bug free, i waited another 4 or so months living out of bags and following the protocol of bb life exactly.
