Would it be advantageous to create a sticky for a thread where we could simply put in reviews of K9 companies. Whether they do visual inspections of alerts, use 1 or 2 dogs, provide pest control, warranty and what your results of the inspection ended up being.

Now I want to say I think the dogs were wrong in my case, but obviously I can't make the claim just yet. I'm 95% sure, but would like to wait a month to be sure.

I really think this could become a great resource for those looking at hire a team.

    Thanks,
    Denise

    Hi, Denise.

As a matter of fact I have IsoTech here locally in SoCal coming today! They've created a bed bug strike team of sorts and their dogs are University of Florida Entomology Department accredited and certified. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Good luck Jeremy,

Make sure they get their flash lights out and do a physical inspection if the dogs alert to any areas.

They will. I asked and these are exterminators trained with these dogs. I had a long conversation asking tons of questions to Eric, the one who runs the Bed Bug department at IsoTech. I'll probably have MY light out, too. LOL.

    Hi Jeremy,

I can assure you that the University of Florida Entomology Department does not certify scent detection dogs... I think you may have inadvertently misquoted someone.

Pinto's Bed Bug Manual has a section on scent detection K9s that might be the source of the confusion... The BB Manual states that NESDCA was created by the U of Florida Entomology Department... which is not correct.

NESDCA is a privately owned organization that was originally founded under a different name to certify termite detection K9s... They certified their first dogs for bed bug detection in May of 2007 under the NESDCA name.

Let us know about the results of your inspection... Hopefully it will be good news.

The University of Florida Entomology department performed some studies on scent detection K9s that included Eric's dog, but U of Florida does not certify working dogs for termite or bed bug detection.

    Good luck

(Disclosure: I work for Florida K9 Academy as Director of Training and Education and perform K9 inspections for a company on the east coast)

    DougSummerMS,

    Sorry for the error.

I just had the inspection done with great results. Yes, I have one positive find in my boxspring with no overt signs. The PCOs that came reassured my suspicion: I caught it VERY EARLY. They are coming monday to treat the whole apartment and furniture; and they were very friendly, very thorough, knowledgeable and answered ALL of my questions (I had a ton...). That's my two cents. With them and my diligence...looks like I can beat this.

    Hi Denise,

There are lots of reviews of k9s and PCOs on the boards. Putting them all in one thread will not be manageable.

Instead, start a new thread with the name of the company and location.

Then, in the spot for "tags," write the name of the company, the city, and k9s. Separate these with a comma. This will create tags.

Even without the tags, you can search for a name and you may find other comments on the firm. If a thread discussing them already exists, feel free to add your post to that one INSTEAD of starting a new one.

    Hope this helps!

I can do that, but I was thinking that it should be a sticky at the top. Something easy to access. I'm on a board for a totally differrent subject and we do this for Dr. references. It's actually a folder (topic) with threads for each care provider. Not sure if that makes sense.

There is just so much information on here that it takes forever to read stuff and having references readily available would save time.

Just a thought. After I feel we are in the clear I will start a thread for this company.

    Thanks,
    Denise

What evidence did they find? Fecal, live or dead bug, cast skin? Did you save it? Can you post a picture of the evidence?

    Hi Denise,
It's a great idea, but this software does not allow folders. There is a forum for reviews, which you posted this post in.

Everyone does not correctly select the forum when they post, but it is possible to scroll down and read posts only in the one forum.

If posts are tagged consistently (for example NYC PCOs or NYC k9s, Milwaukee PCOs, Milwaukee K9s), then tags do work very well. I try to add tags when I see they are missing.

I could make a sticky for the various types of tags, which might help, though this will take a little time.
