Hope this post is ok. But just needed to vent. While I had managed to get from feeling hopeless and pessimistic, to optimistic and determined. I have now fallen back to the hopeless and pessimistic side of things. I thought everything was contained in my room but it appears that now they are also in the living room couch, (a room that adjoins my bedroom).

We had already vacuumed and dusted the couch with DE. But last night my roommate had a bite on her back. She is sort of in rationalizing denial saying "Well it could be just dry skin, I don't think its a big deal" But I can SEE a bite on her.

They are spraying again on Friday (2nd treatment) and I called my PCO dude to tell him about the couch but he hasn't gotten back to us yet. There were no signs in the couch on first inspection a few weeks ago. But she noticed the bite last night after being on the couch all day.

This is all just such a mess. My landlord hasn't checked the upstairs apartment, and seems to want to have as little to do with this as possible, basically making it MY problem.

Its my first semester in grad school and I have SO MUCH WORK to do and don't have time for all this [expletive]. I am just starting to feel like they are never going to go away. I see so many members on here that have been members for almost a YEAR if not more and I have to say that I find that a little discouraging. I feel like I am always going to worry about this and its never going to go away.

Sorry. I just needed to vent. I am starting to get really depressed and defeated.

Also, every night I have been having nightmares about bed bugs. Probably also no surprise. It just never stops.

    Hi,

Sometimes landlords who don't want to get involved in informing the neighbours can be a good thing.

It means you get at least one chance to print a few key pages off the internet, put together simple information packs and distribute them to all your adjoining neighbours. If you put the right factual information in there and explain why they need to check and what to check for it will at least result in neighbours that have a reduced risk of getting an infestation themselves and therefore passing one back to you.

Education it’s the gift that keeps on giving although it's maybe not everyones first thought for the Xmas wish list.

Make sure you have a clear plan of action with your PCO and do as much of it in writing as possible. It’s often a lot more useful to have a paper trail to lead back to rather than relying on memories of conversations.

Keep positive, there is never a good time to have an infestation of bed bugs.

    David

Thanks David. I am trying to stay positive. This is just the biggest pain in the ass I have ever experienced in my life. Not necessarily the most painful (I keep telling myself I have been through much worse things-- death in family, drug addiction/recovery), but certainly the biggest pain in the ass.

This is certainly the most awful thing I have experienced since I have been sober in the last 6 years! Holy crap if anything has made me want to drink its been this!

    Hey ziploc,

I am also in my first semester of grad school and going through this whole BB thing with a crappy landlord - it is awful. Our problem started a long time ago (August), so I'm more commonly in the optimistic and determined mood now, but I still occasionally feel pessimistic and hopeless as well. All I can say is that it will get easier. Things were the most discouraging after our first treatment - it seemed like there were bugs/bites everywhere and our problem also spread to the living room, but it has gradually gotten better (we had our third treatment last Wednesday). I've just come to realize that it's not going to be a quick fix (unfortunately), and that I must take it one day at a time.

And nothing brings roommates closer together than having to battle a BB infestation :) It was really hard to focus on school when we first began this journey, but now I find that it helps to have something else to think about. Hopefully this will be the case for you too!

Good luck, and may all your BBs die a horrible death!!

Thanks Sleepless. :) I am now also starting to find my homework to be a distraction from the bbs rather than the other way around. I should be writing a paper at the moment but I am watching Keith Olbermann. :)

But yeah. Since the initial hard part of sorting through all my crap and throwing it away, trips to dump putting things in ziplocs etc is over, at least I don't have to go through THAT part every single time. I am just leaving my stuff in bags.

I made and appt for a bed bug dog to check my mom's house (I visit every two weeks) and hopefully they will check my car too while I'm there. At least then I can stop being paranoid about being in my car! (If pooch doesn't find any that is)

I will be very grateful/relieved if we get the all clear from the hound. I am really more worried about my mom's house at this point than my own.

Thanks for the post. nice to know it won't always feel like this.

To myLifeinZiplocs....your normal. The nightmares, fears, stress, phobia of spreading them...all normal. The bugs are horrible and it's difficult to feel any kind of normallacy for a while. Read the Tainted lives survey I posted a while back. Stay sober and you can and will overcome this. They are horrible insects but you and your health are worth more to those who love you than a bug. Try, and boy do I know it's difficult, to keep perspective and focus on the important things in life. I lost my best friend from alcoholism 8 years ago and almost lost another very, very dear friend this year to drugs (he's doing much better) so please keep venting to us and if your totally freaked use the support systems you know of to get yourself through this. People with the cross of addiction are particularly close to my heart and prayers so put the beer down and get the can of Bedlame instead....well you know what I mean. Feel free to PM me and vent some more if you need to freak a little more. Peace and prayers.

Aww thanks so much Newbeebugger. :) I'm not on the verge of blowing my sobriety or anything, although I have been resorting to non narcotic sleeping pills on occasion.

My mom thinks I'm being nuts/silly with bringing the bed bug dog to her house, as she is convinced they are not there. (But it could be early, if I only brought them over recently then a regular inspection would not see them). But I am trying to convey to her how serious and expensive its going to be if we don't catch them right away, and the nightmare that has been my life for the past three weeks. She just tells me to quit worrying. I hope she's right.

Anyway, thank you so much for your kind words. Don't worry I'm not falling off the wagon over this.

I definitely know how you feel about your mom's house! I live in constant fear that I spread them to my boyfriend's place before I found out what was causing my roommates' bites. I inspect thoroughly every time I go over (he thinks I'm nuts) and so far haven't seen any signs, found a bug, or experienced a bite there (but I have at my own place so at least I know I react). I just keep praying that I was lucky!

I did spread them to my parents you guys....horrible...I know, but guess what....even though it's emotionally difficult for everyone it's all treatable. It takes time. We are still treating. For my car, I vacuum at the car wash a couple times a week and I'm not rich by any means so I use a product at Home Depot called "Good Night" by Sprayway. I spray it a couple times a week after I vacuum my car, I go home, and at night car parked in my driveway for the evening I spray it, so I'm not breathing in toxic fumes. In the morning I clean the stearing wheel and non-fabric areas of the car I'll be touching so I do not absorb the chemicals in my skin. I use hand antibacterial wipes to clean with. I'm not an expert here....take note. Other posters are professionals who may offer better treatment advice but I'm just sharing info. Safty first as other posters will tell you. A lot of people think we overreact to the bug because they know little about it until it happens to them. Somewhere there is a balance. You will find it in time. You go through stages like Elizabeth Kubler Ross's on D&D....but bed bug style...feel free to freak a little but keep learning and you'll be okay. Peace you guys.
