just moved, still need to get rid of the bugs
(1 post)-
Ugh. Okay, here's my story. The building I recently moved out of was diagnosed with bed bugs a couple of months ago. We had an exterminator come once, and he couldn't find any trace of bugs in our apartment, but treated everything anyway. We found a few on our own, but he said there were other apartments in the building who had a it worse. We still found a few after that, but my roommates were not concerned, and were way too dirty and messy for everything to be cleaned up well anyway. I needed to move (for several reasons) and figured that we would never be able to get rid of them there under the current conditions. So I moved and tried to be careful not to bring them with me, bagging my clothes after I washed them, and bagging a bunch of other stuff. I moved into a studio apt by myself, so I have no roommates to deal with. Apparently I have brought them anyway, or maybe there were already some here too. I saw a few shortly after I moved in, I don't know if they are active because they were displaced, or also because I am rarely there. I don't get bit much, just a couple of times a week at most, usually one identifiable bite a night. As a flight attendant I am not home for long stretches of time, so I wonder if they are pretty hungry, or maybe some of them will die. But I need to get rid of them so I can live like a normal person in my new apartment that I used to be excited about. I am not sure when or whether to involve the landlord. I bought some chemicals online to treat for them, and have been preparing to do this, which is taking me forever to clean all my clothes, etc. Any suggestions would be helpful. There is no way for me to avoid traveling, but I have been as careful as I can not to bring them with me. Does anyone have info about luggage treatments? Should I open up my bags of stuff that has not been washed (shoes, handbags, books) before or after the treatment? I also just bought a couch right after I moved but before I realized I still had bugs. It is still standing up, never sat on, mostly covered with plastic wrapping, so I hope they haven't wandered over there, but I don't know. Should I treat the couch without unwrapping it, or unwrap it?
Thanks for any help.diebugsdie
