Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Uncategorized
Just double checking before I get nervous
(4 posts)-
I woke up last night because something was crawling on my arm. I smushed it so I can't be sure what it looked like, but it seems too big to be a BB. Its grey and black, seems variegated , and had a few long hairy legs. I just wanted to run it by all you experts to see if anyone has any idea what it might be !
we don't have bedbugs , but travel frequently and are trying to be very vigilant.
THANKS

It sure doesn't sound like a BB. BB's are brown and look like small beatles. There are pictures of BBs on this site :

Usually when you "smush" a bedbug, it explodes with blood (if it bit you).
Hope this helps!

I would not describe bedbug legs I've seen as "hairy" unless I guess you look at them very closely with a very strong magnifier. My bedbugs are not varigieated in color, but I did see one in a hotel California (definitely bedbug shape and other characteristics) that was more greyish than mine in Boston are. Mine are yellowish white as nymphs, and mahogany brown to reddish mahogany when full of blood as adults. Also, if it looked "too big to be a bedbug" it might not be a bedbug. My adult bedbugs were all about the same size (Not like cockroaches where some strains can be huge compared to others.) My bedbugs did change size when they fed where they would baloon up and take on a tear-drop shape. So from your description, they don't sound exactly like my bedbugs in looks but I am not an entomologist and we don't have a picture (yeah, like we're going to get a camera when some bug is walking on our arm in the middle of the night)

Thanks. The problem is I destroyed it so I don't the original shape of the bug and the size seemed large, but who knows. It was not filled with blood and it was definitely gray and black. Not brown or red. So I'm hoping....
I did a thorough bed inspection and turned up nothing except a few carpet beetle larvae.
At this time of year its hard to know if any bug bites are from being outside at night or something worse. I will stay vigilant!
Thanks for your help.
