If you're bagging stuff up, either because you don't have a Packtite or because the stuff can't take the heat, what about putting a little rubbing alcohol on a piece of tissue paper and throwing it in with your stuff. The sealed bag should keep most of the alcohol vapor in, at least long enough for it to permeate most items that a bug could get into.

Would it decrease the survival time for bugs? Would it damage any kinds of items?

I'm going to guess that it would be unclear if the vapor would ultimately do anything vs bugs (it evaporates pretty quick) and doing it in large enough concentrations might be flammable and corrosive to finishes.

There's been discussion of bagging with DDVP strips or even mothballs as more reliable. There are precautions to take in those applications, of course.
