Is this bedbug related? [a: probably not](12 posts)
I found some weird insect leftovers under the sofa and I also have bites or rash on my wrists and fingers and neck. Not sure if that's bedbug related or just a heat rash or fleas (I have a cat also, but been treating him for fleas)?
Here's the evidence:
It'd be great if someone could help me to identify it.
Thanks a lot in advance!
There are spots on the carpet like this:
There is something similar looking on the wooden bedframe. I have also a passive bedbug monitor under the headboard which doesn't show any stains. It's been there for about 2 years. There are a lot of unfolded cardboard boxes under the bed but I have been to scared to move them out. Do you think the passive bedbug monitor would work even though the boxes are under the bed and provide a similar home?
You said you have folded cardboard boxes underneath your bed. If you have things underneath you bed that could provide a home for bed bugs. Then why would they get in the passive?
You need to get rid of those cardboard boxes. I wouldn't not be surprised if you see signs of activity on them if you have bed bugs.
Also, from reading through your other post it is most then likely that you have fleas. Though in any infestation or potential one. You need to be proactive.
Ok, I'll try and get someone to help me to move the bed tomorrow and get the cardboard boxes out. However I thought the bugs would prefer the passive monitor due to closer proximity to my face / oxygen, but I guess I cannot rely on that? For now... could the dead insect be a bedbug?
I'm not a expert but I would say no.
Also, bed bugs will stay in close proximity of where the host is. If they can be directly underneath the bed then why bother getting in the passive?
Well, the passive monitor is closer to my face than the boxes are, as the bed bugs would have to climb down the legs of the bed first to get to the boxes whereas the monitor is directly underneath the top part of the slatted frame. I will inspect the boxes tomorrow, I suspect it to be quite difficult to find bugs (if there are any). Will I have to chuck the boxes away even if I cannot find anything? I'm moving in 2 weeks time.
Sorry for not replying sooner, I had downloaded the image for closer inspection but its been a busy few days.
I don't think its a bedbug, the colour and finer detail is all wrong, not sure what it is though.
The stain is a mark and nothing to do with bedbugs. Something that smeared from the right of the image to the left caused that but that's all I can confirm.
In response to DreDay17, that is a point I get all the time from a well respected authority in bedbugs and my response is always as simple as for the same reason that birds move into bird boxes. If you built it they will come, in the case of Passive Monitors if they provide a better home to bedbugs than anywhere else they will move into them. If the device is designed to induce defecation onto the detection plate then you will see when they visit or move in. Outside of that if you want to know the finer details there are two granted patents with my name on and sales over 100,000 units and clients who have used it for about 6 years now to prove that it does work.
I am sure you all know me better than to use something in my business or in support of others that does not 100% work.
Hope that helps.

Mmmmh... a roach nymph?
Thanks for your reply. So I guess I probably don't have bed bugs. Roach sounds pretty scary though - how sure are you about this? I found several fluffy worms that looked like carpet beetle larvae in the boxes, could this all be carpet beetle related? I have also found wood lice around the house, could it be that? Or the fleas? How likely is it to find cockroaches in the living room - aren't they usually in the bathroom or kitchen? I'm a bit worried about that now...

Absolutely not sure, it's just an hypothesis. A better pic would help a lot...
I found one more bug and a couple of stains, it'd be really good to know if it's cockroaches:
The flat I'm renting never seemed that clean, I'm moving out in 2 weeks and if it's anything scary then it'd be really good to take precautions not to take anything with me...
Thanks for your help
First two pics are beetles, and stains are not BBs related...
