A while ago, I posted on the "tales of woe" forum how my bed bug problem wouldn't seem to go away. About a month ago, I purchased a product called Diatect Results from a local hardware store based on a forum post I read. I was fairly aggressive and liberal in its application (around the perimeter of the room, and on the sides of my mattress/box spring. Previously, I had tried putting the legs of the bed in cups of water, and spraying D-Force and gentrol around the perimeter of the mattress and room, but this did not stop the bites) Literally the day after I dust the room, I wake up the next morning with a couple of fresh bites. "Great, it doesn't work", I think to myself. However, stubborn persistence tells me to at least continue for a little while, since I had already tried going the landlord-hired PCO route, with little success. 5 days later, I re-dust, and again, I somehow get bitten again during the night, except the number of bites went down from 10 to about 3.

Starting around week two, I noticed that the number of bites went down to around 0, even right after I dust, and there were no signs of bed bug poop on the bed. I kind of purposely avoided vacuuming around the perimeter of my bedroom, as I was paranoid of breaking my vac, but I regularly wash the bedsheets. It's been about 5 weeks since I started, and about 3 weeks since my last bug bites.

The infestation that I started with was already relatively light to begin with when I started applying the DE(at most, about 10-12 bites on a night when they would strike). I am obviously going to continue what I am doing for the time being, but do people think this is more a sign that I have won, or that the bed bugs are hibernating?

I have talked to my neighbors in the complex, and none of them have reported bed bug problems. (as this was unfortunately likely a problem brought about by some stray bugs hitching a ride to my apartment on someone's luggage, not from neighborhood contamination) I should also mention that I had the carpeting in my apartment completely changed 2 months ago, and that significantly helped reduce the number of bites I had. Any thoughts?

are you saying the Diatect stuff is DE, as in Diatomaceous Earth? I purchased some DE as well from an organics place and have it partially spread around doors and around my bed. I'm thinking of getting more to do the whole room. Wondering what you used to spread it with? (i used a spoon, but it's heavier in some spots, sparser in others.)

Anyone else with DE success? If so, please advise the best way to use/spread it (and did you pack it in bags/boxes of stuff to go in storage?)
