Interesting on the progress with bed bugs with in the last 2yrs. Good that steps are finally being addressed, but I feel as in the clip with Cooper...should be taken on a National Level. (long ago for that matter)

    Hello NJ, where are you?!?!?!

We need to get the bed bug awareness on a National Level NOW don't ya think?

As a parent, I fear everyday when my child comes off the school bus as to if I should "take precautions" when she comes home from school. It's a huge mental battle for me on what is "normal" and "not." In many ways it seems like we are all sitting ducks in await of another infestation as so my children can still lead a normal and happy life. From what I gather, we must go on "normally" as before we had bed bugs, even if we do get them again.....for there is no way to avoid running into bed bugs without putting yourself in a bubble. For me, single family home, many small kids...I have no landlord, no govt assistance. I know with all the activity in the home the only way out of another infestation w/o losing everything again is going to cost me $8k+ which I don't have. The final results of our last infestation was Chapt 13. But still I chose (with much fear) to live as normally as we can for the health and happiness of the family.

We rid our infestation 2 yrs ago. What fears me most is we were least likely to get bed bugs according to what I've read. We have not traveled in over 6 yrs. We live in a single family detached house hours from the city. Our children were babies and not in school at the time. And this was 2 yrs ago.

We got the infestation from having a close family member sit on our couch and/or stay the night. That family member hasn't traveled in over 15 yrs and barely has a social life.

If this happened to us 2 yrs ago, how bad is the spread of bed bugs now?

I say it's long over due time for the government to stand up on this no?

Ok, enough of my rant..Felt good to get it out though. Thanks seeing through my eyes a bit. If God lead ya to it, he'll also get ya through it. I've been told! And it's true.

But Please, no matter what state you live, write your local and state government, health depts, to push them to take some action. It's slow moving but as we see, it helps. It's for our children.

Great post Paula - not much else that I can add to it except to say that I can relate and sympathize.

I was also in a low risk group but placing my stuff in a storge locker changed those odds and it took me more than a year of chemical treatmes - after vikane failed to get rid of them. now I am living comfortably but not normally - my stuff is still in plastic bags and this experience changed me forever

since there won't be any "magic bullet" chemical treatment anytime soon and my experience with PCOs for the most part has not been a postive one - many of them are just clueless - it seems to me that the rapid and uncontrollable spread of these monsters is unavoidable

Just like you, I paid for all of my treatments and although so far I have not had to declare bankruptcy the experience was incredibly painful and not one that I could go through again

In my opinion, the poor training, laziness and inefficiency of most of the PCOs I encountered really needs to be addressed. My feeling is that for PCOs either they have to specialize in bedbugs treatments or dont bother because they are just stealing money from these poor people who are suffering

regarding vikane treatments - I believe that bed bugs & beyond realized that their methods were not providing postive results and was failing and that is why they changed over to the POD system in a vault chamber. Hopefully that method works better because vikane if done properly can work

But regardless I understand where you are coming from and can relate

    Adele,
We should all applaud your suggestion regarding a mandate of specialized bed bug education, treatment success criteria, and regulations for organizations to comply with when offering bed bug treatment solutions. It is obvious that victims have reached a zero tolerance and this must be kept at the fore front of everyone mind if true resolution is ever going to be achieved.
Thank you for your confirmation regarding Vikane effectiveness when administered correctly. Only state licensed fumigators with many years of successful experience should ever practice fumigation.
Please note that unless an entire structure is treated with Vikane it is IMPERATIVE that a successful treatment process includes the following, K-9 sent detection to identify locations of infestation i.e. where and what to focus treatment on, traditional topical treatment of the structure by a knowledgeable experienced pest control operator, and Vikane fumigation of all personal belongings.
When fumigated bed bug free items are moved into an apartment that hasn't been treated effectively and confirmed to be bed bug free, history has proven that 100% success is then solely at the risk of a PCOs topical treatments may take an undetermined amount of time to accomplish success.
