It's been a while since I've been on the forum, as my brain needed a break from all the BB drama. But I thought I'd post a quick update, as I am now feeling a little more confident that we've achieved success. We haven't seen a bug, had a bite or had blood on the sheets since February 2009. And our building, which at one point had 10 infested apartments, is "clean" also.

We battled for 7 months and had 12 treatments from Orkin. Mattresses were encased, beds were isolated, we used DE sparingly. I caulked all of the baseboards and all of the bedroom furniture (thanks to Jim's advice!). We put a number of sealed, plastic bins into storage (that won't be coming out until September 2010). My daughter and I are still keeping a lot of items in baggies -- frankly, we are so accustomed to bagging our laundry, we didn't stop! And my daughter's mattress and boxspring were eventually pitched and replaced.

I have to say that battling BBs was one of the hardest things I've faced. I still have occassional nightmares where I awake screaming, itching and feeling like I have bugs crawling on me. I snap on the lights, inspect the bed, and then lay down again knowing that I'm OK.

This board saved my life. I didn't think I'd get through it. Honestly, by the 9th treatment, I was really losing hope that we'd ever get rid of them. But we did. And that's my message to everyone -- don't lose hope!

Congrats! And thanks for coming back and posting about your success. I know from personal experience how important it is to have success stories on this forum for those who are feeling utterly hopeless. So thanks for the ray of hope!

Yay for your happy ending!!! I know the feeling of going to bed and feeling itchy and you just KNOW something is crawling on you...only to jump up and turn on the light and find there's nothing there! It happened to me last night and I blame it on reading the forum before going to bed. LOL Now I know to only read during the daytime.

Nope. I've been bed bug free since my thermal treatment at the end of June 2008.

    Thanks for all the well-wishes!

No, 12 treatments is not normal. We had some problems with neighbours who could not follow the proper protocols (due to disabilities and financial restraints). So it took longer.

In hindsight, I know I'm one of the lucky ones. Our landlord was very agressive with treatments and paid for all of our encasements. I don't know how this story would have ended if my landlord was not on board.
