I am not an expert (I'm sure one will pop in soon!) but that does not look like a bedbug to me. The striping seems really non-bb like. I hope for your sake I'm right!

I'm not the best IDer on the site, but it doesn't look like a bed bug to me either. Hopefully one of the experts will be along soon to tell you precisely what it is.

No, this is NOT a carpet beetle.

It is either a varied carpet beetle or a funriture beetle.

However, this is a good example of a suitable photo so, thanks for providing a useable photo !

Hope this helps ! paul b.

Ok Paul I am confused? You say it is NOT a carpet beetle but then say it is a carpet beetle?

    Oooops, my bad !

Sorry folks, see what happens when I try to type too fast, I simply hit the wrong letters and have too many things on my mind all at the same time !

This photo is NOT a bed bug.

It is either a varied carpet beetle or furniture beetle.

It is a decent, useable photo however,

Hope this helps and sorry once more for any confustion caused by my previopus reply on this !

    Hi

Thanks. great forum and quick response

Just to say we are from the UK, was not sure how US focused this forum is.

Could these cause someone a bad reaction and cause itchiness / rash ? My partner has real problems at night and gets really itchy and we have been trying to track down the cause. We have changed everything, and I have had a feeling there was a bug issue.

    Thanks

"This photo is NOT a bed bug.

Yes, not a bed bug, but looks like a species of Anthrenus such as the varied carpet beetle. Look at the overall body composition, head and antennae to see differences between it and a bed bug.
Now the name furniture beetle actually is something different from the name furniture carpet beetle. A furniture beetle is a member of the family Anobiidae and many of the destructive species are wood borers in homes and furniture.
I know Paul meant furniture carpet beetle (not picking on him), but I'm pointing out problems with use of common names or regional common names or partial common names. Don't mean to be a nit picker (BTW, has to do with picking out very small lice eggs from hair, a very specific and time consuming job of trying to get out very small eggs that are glued on the hair shaft).

As Lou points out the setae on the larvae may cause skin irritation to some and some folks may be more susceptable than others.

As you are in the UK, David Cain participates on this Forum from London area (last time I checked it was in the UK) so, he may be able to provide you with additional advice and assistance as well.

Hope this helps ! paul b.
