I Put BB Story On "Smirking Chimp"
(7 posts)-
On these threads I have noted that we need to get the bb story out among politically progressive people, because it is an issue that is being ignored on many levels by the powers that be. " Smirking Chimp" is a very interesting web site that I joined recently. If you have strong ideas on current events, you will enjoy reading the stories and blogs, and if you are a member you will enjoy the lively discussions that you can be part of. I am putting pieces about bbs on a more informal part of the site called "Chimpster Nation." I am hoping people there will share their bb concerns and experiences. Statistically, I can't imagine that people who are on the "Smirking Chimp" site haven't been touched by bbs since all populations have seen a tremendous increase in bb activity. I have referred the readers there to bedbugger.com. I hope you look up my thread in the "Chimpster Nation" section. Some of you may already subscribe to "Smirking Chimp." If you do, you can make comments on the thread and help get a discussion going. If you don't subscribe, this might be a time to join. There are currently great blogs on the healthcare issue which I know is extremely important to most of us. The address is :
www.smirkingchimp.comI would also like to note that I am sure there are members on this site who would not consider themselves to be politically liberal. Bbs do not know politics. If Smirking Chimp does not appeal to you, I am sure there are blogs that you like and you can start similar imformative discussions on blogs that you prefer.

hi just itching - i think it's really great that you're taking your story to online communities that may not be aware of the bedbug issue. raising awareness amongst others is an important step. have you had much feedback there? i haven't heard of the smirking chimp website before. i wonder whether documentary film makers scout websites such as those? i think there needs to be a documentary done on bedbugs - one with a wide range of viewers that would share the lived experiences of people who have lived with bedbugs, the healthcare concerns, the policy concerns, etc. i think it would help to undo some of the myths around bedbugs, and hopefully even some of the stigma.

I don't get why a documentary filmmaker hasn't jumped on the story either.
Good on you spreading the word on BBs. As for the idea of joining a political discussion board, regardless of left or right, to quote Jack Nicholson from Terms of Endearment," I'd rather stick needles in my eyes."

I have not gotten feedback yet, though many have read the post and it has only been posted a short time. I am starting with the basics of bbs and may discuss my personal story later. The idea of a documentary on bbs is a great idea. We should pursue that. Something like the stuff they show on PBS. Bbs are a story that must be told. Folks tend to not know about them until they get them.

I am beginning to get feedback. The first person said perhaps this is only a problem in NY.
So that really got me going and I discussed my personal story, and many of the issues we discuss on these threads. I referenced bedbugger.com throughout my entry today. I hope you folks look at it. Its called "The Current Bed Bug Epidemic," and it's a thread in the "Chimpster Nation" section of

I've gotten some more feedback. So far one member noted her daughter in FL had bbs a few years ago, and that I'm correct there is an epidemic. Then two other members got into a discussion about why DDT has been banned. Many people are looking at the post, and I'm hoping that gradually more people will get involved as I believe bbs is a serious political issue whose time has come. The only problem is even with pseudonyms, many people probably don't want to admit they have, or have had them. Unfortunately, there is a shame factor though there should not be. This reminds me of the discussion, above, about making a bb documentary. In all honesty, it's one thing for me to admit on a blog that I have bbs, using a pseudonym. It is quite another to be interviewed in a documentary. I guess I could let them distort the video, like when they interview rape victims, or whistle blowers etc., and distort my voice. I don't know. How many of you would want to appear as yourselves on a bb documentary?

I am continuing my discussion called "The Current Bed Bug Epidemic." It is in the Chimpster Nation section of
Today's piece features a short discussion of bed bugs in public housing and features the new story by Nobugsonme about the infested public housing in Atantic City. Of course, I refer to bedbugger.com. If any of you have ideas of other bb issues I should write about, let me know, by either replying here or sending me a private message. Thanks.
