I have no idea what to do...(2 posts)
So, first things first, I know I have bed bugs. They are huge. ): We sadly didn't detect them straight away it seems as the first few bites seemed like mosquito bites and saw no bugs even though we looked. Then suddenly my boyfriend woke up COVERED in bites however a a day earlier we went with my family to the lake and we brushed it off as duck itch. (The two have similar symptoms.) We still did not see a single bug and I apparently don't seem tasty enough to eat because I haven't been bitten (or I might not just be one of the reactive ones?)
Regardless today my boyfriend was changing the linens in our bed with some we were gifted as a present and he found a whole little happy family in our bed and called me in a panic. I rushed to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought the mattress and pillow covers and the "Rest Easy" spray and I called my landlord and found out it's going to be a whole week and a half until we can be seen by a professional for just a simple check. My poor baby is getting eaten alive and now that he knows we have bedbugs he can't sleep. Is there any way I can get them to just, stop eating him alive long enough so he can get a good nights sleep?
Also I need to know what I can do to sort of solve the problem without making it worse. I know the repellants like the Rest Easy can send them hiding deep within our walls and such but if I just spray it on the bed will that work? I just don't want the poor thing to get eaten any more then he is, his arms and legs are covered. (This all happened within a couple of days, they went crazy on the poor thing!) Will the mattress and boxspring cover help some? We took all our old bedding and put it in plastic zip bags taping up any holes and plan on taking it to the laundry mat tomorrow to heat dry them (they were just washed a few days ago.)
Apparently this is also an issue in our whole building (There's over 60 units in our building.) How do we prevent them from coming in and snacking! We just move into this unit in Williamsburg, Brooklyn a little over a month ago and have never lived in a unit like this before (we moved from a house into an apartment building) this is an old rustic building and there's holes EVERYWHERE.
I've looked through most of the website already, but I see a lot of detection stuff. I know for a fact I have bedbugs upon actually looking at the bites (after now knowing it's not duck itch like first thought) and seeing quite big ones in the mattress while putting the covers on (we sprayed the ones we saw and all over the mattress before putting them on.) But I don't see a lot of info on just like, home remedies to tie you over until the professionals get here. Any help would be appreciated!!!
I know it's controversial around here, but you might want to consider isolating the bed. You can learn more about the whys (or why nots) and how to do it in the FAQ's.
