How to treat allergic reactions - very large welts??
(11 posts)-
I have been BB free for a while, probably 8 months, but have been dealing with them for over 2 years!!!! I know it is something that we are coming into contact with and bringing them back home (school, work, public transportation, etc) . I get extremely large red welts that go away after 3 weeks. Does anyone have any experience with any product, home remedy, voodoo, anything that will work to get the welts and red down. It is humiliating to walk around looking like this. I am so aggravated this nightmare is starting again!!!!!

I am confused. Do you mean you have not had them at home for 8months but continue to get welts?
-
No sorry that was not clear. The 1st time we had them was about 2 years ago. We then got rid of them for several months and then got them again and got rid of them again for several months. We now have them again and I am about to loose my mind.

Sorry about that. I don't know what to recommend for the welts. I would see a doctor because there may be something they can give you since these sound like extreme reactions.
Are you getting treatment at home? Are you in a freestanding house or could it be from neighbors?

I understand - I wish I could just curl up and die some days. I am extremely allergic to these things. I have gotten some relief from allegra and strong steroid creams. But I am still wearing long sleeves in 90 degree weather.

You should see a medical professional.

I've spent almost as much on doctors as I have on BB's. The only thing they can offer is antihistamines and steroid creams. The stronger creams and ointments - like clobesol - work somewhat in reducing the inflammation and itching. The best antihistamine has been just plain Allegra.

Seca46,
Sounds like you are on the right track. About 50% of the time, my reactions are similar. For me, the inside of my forearms have the worst reaction; while my shoulders itch less and do not form a bulbous reaction they do swell significantly.
As I help my husband feed his colony of bed bugs (he has to keep live ones for maintenance training his bed bug dog) I was lucky to discover Sudocreme seemed to shorten the healing process. Of course, scratching is the worst, and I have a number of shirts that I find the material does not irritate the bites, e.g. high thread count 'polished' cotton and faux or ultrasuede. We both use the creme several times a day, massaging it in. Good luck. Sheree

Seca- I can definately relate.. We are battling this same issue. This is the first time weve had them... I have a horrendous reaction to these vampires... EVERYWHERE!! from my face to my feet.. My boyfriend gets bit but they aren't welted like mine and they don't itch at all...
Its awful... I have never experienced anything like this at all.. and yes it is embarrassing-- I work with the public and I am sure people are thinking WTH? is wrong with this girl...
Canuck-- can you get that cream over the counter? Please help me from itching! I feel like the heat makes them itch worse... I will wake up in the middle of the night scratching...

Sudocream is sold in most pharmacy/drugstores. We used to have ours behind the counter, but I'm sure they've moved it out into the baby aisle now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I remember. I might try that myself since I'm in the pharmacy every day haha.

I hate bed bugs, toronto_lady_m is correct you should be able to purchase at the majority of drug stores. I believe it is intended for diaper rash and for myself it really does keep the itch to a minimum - as long as you do not give in and start scratching. Have not tried other such ointments, only the sudocreme.
As we know when we are bit, we also wash the area immediately after; seems to lessen allergic reaction. Dry, then rub in the creme. I think the mini massage also helps the circulatory system flush the allergens. Sheree
