Now that I am living in NYC in a brand new apartment that I just moved into which is rather expensively furnished, i cannot bring myself to throw out my furniture, especially my beautiful white sofa. Is there any way for me to go over it with a hair dryer for a few hours or a day? Buy tons of heating lamps and bake it? Has anyone successfully removed the bugs from anything else upholstered?

The bugs may have arrived at my old place and may have been packed up with all of my things (unbeknownst to me!) I am fairly certain that they haven't already been living in the apt since everyone says its an extremely clean building and they NEVER have any rodents or pests.

I just moved into this new apartment and right now my sofa is sitting on its short end wrapped in tons of styrofoam and saran wrap which the movers put on it. I suspect that the bugs are definitely inside the sofa and i think they've escaped and I'm afraid they are going to contaminate my new place if they have not already

I found 3 tiny little bites on my arm that form a perfect triangle. I think they are too tiny to see yet, haven't seen any brown big ones

::::::::The city should erect municipal saunas where we can bake our furniture and other belongings ::::::::

On an ironic aside: I had a really unfortunate encounter with bed bugs when I moved to NY city temporarily in dorm like carpeted housing to do a summer internship. I had welts everywhere, no sleep, was later diagnosed with what is called "formication" (the imaginary sensation of bugs crawling all over you)

I successfully got rid of them when I moved out finally back home to the west coast. my parents greeted me at the airport with industrial garbage bags and a change of clothing. we bagged up my luggage and dumped everything into our sauna and i baked the BBS for 3 days straight in 180 F.

I have ever since been paranoid and terrified of getting them again. The irony is that my sister came this summer to do an internship and was staying at a convent on 54th and 10th and got them there. The nuns really didn't care and she didn't know what to do so I had to help her deal with it and get home safely without bringing them back and by doing so must have gotten them from her...

Victoire...what a mess...and a terrible diagnosis....if they saw the welts how could they be so stupid......So you moved from an infested place ??? I think you need to get a PCO immediately...I would leave the sofa wrapped up until you speak to a qualified PCO.....start to vacumm and take all precautions...and save any specimens as proof...
