How much DE?
(3 posts)-
So the PCO advised DE for the office. (see Infestations at work thread)
Two Qs:
How much do we need - we're lining the perimeter of a large space, which I haven't measured, but if you told me what it takes to line a 10 foot wall, then I could extrapolate.
He said to make a 3 inch thick line, but on the FAQ it says BB may avoid a thick line - I think this refers to dusting v. piling it on, though, not thickness of line. Fine dusting best?
This PCO also said boric acid, but I see consensus is that boric acid isn't effective for BB.
(I might be getting bit by mites, but we have found BB at work)
thanks in advance for any links and/or info

Okay, you need a second opinion from a different PCO.
First, boric acid is useless on bedbugs.
Secondly, bed bugs will avoid walking through any large lumps or clumps of DE. I have read the experts on this board say that you need a powder mist so light that you can only see it from a couple of feet away and that it would resembly ordinary housedust on furniture if you did not dust for 2 or 3 weeks (think how you could take your finger and kind of move it through the dust). If you are going to use DE, make sure to read the FAQ. By a respirator to be on the safe side. Use food grade DE, and by a bellows duster off ebay to apply properly. Also practice somewhere outside if you can to learn how to apply it. You will be doing very gentle gentle puffs to get a light application. And I have learned I need to give a discalimer that you do everything at your own risk... so if you do this, just read up and be informed before you go putting it down.

Thanks for reply - thank goodness for the FAQs here, they rock.
Anyone know how much DE it takes to cover any certain area? Fine mist = not much?
