how long after bites can it take to find evidence of bb?
(4 posts)-
We are a family of 6. My 4 children are ages 7 and under. Over the last couple weeks two of my children and my husband has discoved bites on them. I have never heard of anyone in our area having bedbugs, and really did not think they even exsisted until I was looking, on the internet, for what could be biting my family. I have taken a flash light turned over mattresses boxsprings, checked baseboards, cracks and crevices and can find no evidence of the bugs. No fecal matter, no bug sheddings, no blood stains.......nothing that looks like any of the bedbug pictures. I did find a few carpet bettle larvae (YUCK) under our bed in my husbands massive ball card collection, we went thru the cards for bb saw no evidence. I was upset enough by the carpet beetles but I have read that they don't bite.
There are two BIG things after reading that makes me think BB are a possibility.
1. I buy everything second hand (our mattresses are bought new) But couches, clothes etc are normally used from yardsales. I never thought this was a big deal because I really have never heard of anyone having BB before........MAN, this changes my outlook.
2. In May we vacationed in FL, (we live in VA) and I checked and the hotel we stayed at had reports of BB on the BB registry site.
So, how long do you think I will have to continue to check to find evidence. Have you heard of cases where people continue to get bite but never find evidence, is evidence ALWAYS there? How long do you think it will take me to see evidence? Thank you to anyone who is willing to offer advice to me.

If you have multiple bites, you should find BBs traces ...so, probably, it's not BBs.

They don't bite, that's true, but they often may cause a "bite like syndrome" through shed skins of their larvae, that are covered of hairs. It's an allergic reaction, so symptoms may greatly vary from person to person.

Thank you for your reply. It is good to know that I would see evidence, because I don't. I will continue to look closely though, and I think my second hand shopping has came to an end, after all this reading. I never knew, I always only heard "good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite" and thought it was just a tale, that almost made them sound friendly to me.
I did read that carpet beetle larvae hairs cause allergic reactions, it is just that these look so much like bites...
I sure am hoping for the best.

allergic reactions that, not by chance, are usually defined "bite-like"...
