This is very random BUT...we are being monitored for bedbugs, and we're working with killerqueen. So far, we've come up with nothing in the climbups (mailed stuff into killerqueen who confirmed this).

However, this morning, there was a bug with a clearly articulated head and a spherical body marching across my sheets. I panicked (had my 10mo with me), and used the first thing that came to hand to pick it up: a black tanktop. I then wrapped the tanktop in a black dress (the second thing on hand), and eventually everything went into a large ziploc bag because I obviously couldn't find the bug to trap it.

Don't ask why I didn't think to use something white or just kill the damn thing to start with. I don't know. I was afraid of triggering some sort of bedbug alarm and have them all migrate throughout my apartment.

But how do I retrieve this bug to identify it? Is there a way to do it besides hands and a flashlight and screaming the entire time? Can I soak the clothes in hot water and have the bug float to the top? (I know it won't die this way).

Thoughts on an easy way to retrieve the bug--presumably still alive--without having it escape?

    thanks.

Opening it all in the tub might be a way to do it, but then again, knowing KQ, he might just make you send him the whole thing. LOL

Wait, does squishing cause a bug alarm like killing a bee? In that case, I'm screwed. I squish them with my finger if I need too. Disgusting yes, but I wash my hands thoroughly and I do NOT like taking chances! And if I have a tissue available I do use that...

I read/heard that if they get "stressed" they emit some sort of pheremone thing that alerts the tribe, as it were. Of course, I don't think this applies to if you just kill the damn thing like a smart person would do.
