How do I keep from moving the bugs around my house?
(7 posts)-
We have 2 little kids and are just starting the preparation. It's going to take us awhile. We have a lot of decluttering to do and laundry is a always a challenge at the best of times let alone having to do extra.
So in the mean time... How to we keep from moving the bugs around the house? I am quite sure we have them all through the upper floor where we sleep (we move from our bed where we know we have them to our 4 yr olds bed in the middle of the night when she wakes) I'd like to keep them there and not bring them down to our living room furniture. Is this even possible?
Walk me through what I have to do to keep them confined to the upper floor.
How do I keep from tracking them to our friends' places when we go out to visit them?
How do we keep them from my partner's office?
What about library books? How do I protect them from my house? (Obviously I won't take more out but we have a bunch out now...)Be as detailed as you can please.
Thanks! -
Hi badbadbedbugs,
Check out the FAQ on this site for tips on how to avoid spreading them.

Packtite can help with the books and other stuff. I ran books, shoes, leather boots through my packtite first then I either closed the ziplock bag or closed the ziplock and placed in airtight containers I got from the container store.

packtites are not available in Canada. I emailed and asked :(
I need practical ideas that will work with 2 kids who are 4 and 17 months. They are home all day every day and the 17 month old still naps once or twice a day in the most bed bug infested room.
I'll go read the faqs. But still... help me out!

There's no practical way to keep the bugs from spreading around your house.
If you have an oven that can reliably stay between 130 and 180, you can put books in there.

If you can order the giant ziplocks online and get trash bags. Bring the bags to your stuff. Don't carry your stuff to your bags. (experience, don't do that) That is the best way not to sprinkle bed bugs all over your house. A Packtite makes everything easier and is good for your brain cause you know what has been in there is "clean." My winter shoes are cooking right now.

Well I'd start with isolating your bed so the you and kids can sleep better. The suggestions about ziploc bags are good. Don't take anything downstairs without ziplocing it. With books you could go through and vacuum every page, but that's quite time consuming. Some people have had success with the oven thing I guess. You could also call the library and tell them the situation and ask what they'd like you to do. Do you have friends or family in the US that could ship you a packtite?
