How do a find a bug???
(2 posts)-
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on here for a while, and I finally decided I need some help from you all. I dealt with bed bugs about 5 years ago and successfully treated them with an exterminator (yea for success!). About two months ago, my worst nightmare came true - my family and I started getting bitten daily. Within one week of these bites, I immediately called an exterminator, as I wasn't going to waste any time (you all understand, I'm sure). I originally hired a "natural" treatment group, as this time around I have a young daughter. While the natural treatment does seem to have helped a little, they are not gone. We have been talking to our condo board and neighbors (live a multi-unit dwelling), and there have been other units getting bites as well. Basically, it sounds as if one neighbor had bugs several months ago and attempted to bomb the place themselves. About three months later, we started getting bitten.
To make a long story short, we hired the "best" exterminator in the state for bed bugs (a group also recommended on this board - I'll just mention that we live in NJ), and they came to do inspections and spray our baseboards. Interestingly, they couldn't find anything from these inspections/treatments in anyone's units, but the did find a dead bed bug in one person's unit and my neighbor found another. Since that treatment, we have been getting bitten every night (before we were only getting bitten about once a week).
So here's the issue - this company won't do a thorough treatment unless we find a bug. It is SO maddening - we have torn our bedrooms apart, everything inspected, every piece of clothing cleaned and stored in plastic bags, furniture away from the walls, carpets out of the rooms, etc., etc. We've done it all and we cannot find a single freakin' bug!!!
What are we to do? This very helpful company has told us we basically have to wait...let the infestation grow, let ourselves get bitten until we find something. Having gone through this before and having a young child, I just can't accept this. It has already been over two months - how much longer do I have to wait? I have been less than enamored with this company and their personnel - one inspector told my neighbor that we are "paranoid," and another technician told a neighbor that this must be all in our heads because they couldn't find anything.
I'm getting desperate...thank you SO much for any advice!

Hey Emma,
That stinks. Did you try talking to the manager of the company? Many here have tried talking with the manager when they were not getting what they felt they needed. Any good PCO who knows bed bugs should know that they're hard to find. It's hard for PCOs to find bed bugs, let alone for the customer. Bites are a sign of bed bugs--in a building known to be infested.
