    Dear folks,

While I cannot speak 100% for my professional colleagues, please understand that I consider it an honor to receive your requests for assistance with your bed bug related issues ! And, I will always do my best to help you as I'm sure that the other professionals who participate on this Forum do as well.

This said, below I've listed some "Practical Tips" that will help us to help you when seeking assistance with your bed bug concerns:

    > We need to know what's happened but try to be concise.
    > We need to know certain details including:
    * Where you live (city, state, town, country)
    * Single family home or apartment?
    * Rent or own?
    * Who lives there with you?
    * Pets, how many and what kind?
    * Bites? who is being bitten?
    * How long has this been going on? dates are good !
    * What control work has been done already and by whom?
    * Have you actually seen live bed bugs?
    * Has the presence of live bed bugs been confirmed and by whom?
    * Photos: post photos using your Macro setting and make them as clear as possible by using a suitable background and decent lighting.
    * Photos: post photos of pest top view, bottom view, front view and back view (just in case)
    * How you think you got bed bugs at your place?
    * List your questions & concerns as best you can.

OTHER: (And, these comments & "guidelines" just apply to me.)

    > I will always help you as best I can but I do not have 24/7 access to e-mail due to my business travel.
    > If I say I gotta go and I'll answer you later it's usually because Delta is closing the door and it's "phones off" and I really I gotta go because I don't want to be the next Alec Baldwin at the airport being escorted from the plane in handcuffs by federal authorities. : )
    > If I give you a recommendation on what to do, I really don't much care what your sister's husband's brother's wife's uncle, who used to be a pest control technician in the seventies, has to say about it or his theories on bed bug control.

Doesn't make me a bad person, just an impatient _ _ _ _ _ (fill in your favorite adjective) !

Hope this helps, have a great bug free day ! paul b.

Paul, I have to echo Anna above and just say how incredibly generous it is of you and the other experts to donate your time so freely on this forum. I think the "best" PCOs are the ones who understand that there's also a mental/emotional component to a BB situation, and that they're not "just bugs" to those of us who are struggling with them. I mean, if I had to choose, I'd of course want an effective PCO who's a jacka$$ rather than one who's an incompetent but nice/compassionate guy. So it's fortunate for those of us on this forum that you and the others are the best of both worlds! So thank you.

    Thanks, Paul!

The input you and the other experts give here is very much appreciated.

A special shout out also to the experienced Bedbuggers, who also stick around and support and give suggestions to others, even though their problems are usually long gone.

    Dear nobugs,

i was wondering if perhaps you can create some sort of template or "e-form" that includes the input data listed above for folks to list the information needed for us to help them in a time efficient manner???

    Thansk much ! paul b.

I wholeheartedly agree with the above. Paul you were a beacon in the dark when I had no one else to turn to! You always gave clear and timely answers and the way you give of your time and knowledge is amazing!
Your idea of a template to fill in is terrific. Again thanks to you and all the helpful pros here! This can be very lonely and scary.

    Thanks again, Paul!

I always think of you as the Tom Hanks character in League of Her Own...shaking your head and saying..."There's no CRYING with bedbugs".

You always have a positive slant on the situation.

I'm just trying to stop people from becoming the Bill Paxton character in the original Alien; "We're toast man. Game over man."

If you think you can't win, the danger is that you're probably right.

I'd much rather say; "Eff these bed bugs, we're killing them all !"

Gotta get some sleep, have a good night, and thanks ! paul b.

    Hi Paul,

I can't really implement a complicated form like this into the posting box. You have to understand that people often don't even read the post box carefully enough to choose a category for their posts (hence most are "uncategorized" -- including this one). Having a long list of questions would probably add confusion for many and would not necessarily help the problem you've identified.

Your post above could be a FAQ or sticky but like the others, people have to read them and often this is the hardest part.

However, I would recommend that you save the link to your post (click the # sign next to it to get a "permalink") and once you do see someone has not provided all required information, you link back to it. (That may be a bit easier if it's in the green stickies.)

    HOLY CRAP !

You're dragging me into this e-technology website stuff thing one way or another aren't you?

What you said in 23 seconds will take me hours to figure out how to do.

But, I'm sure you're correct about this.

    That sticky thing, hmmmm . . . (to be continued . . . )

    Thanks ! paul b.

    Thanks so much Paul

Before I knew this information, I created an Excel Spreadsheet with columns
Date , Which Rooms, Count(how many) ,Where (bugs found home, apartment, condo) Treatment date, Products Used ( encasement's DE etc.., Bitten by Bed bugs.
It was very helpful for my PCO and landlord. 'm going to add a few more columns with your information.

BTW : I think one of the most important things too is to be honest with your PCO ..what did you do before he came (treatments) actually how many bugs etc...

Remember, I am just telling you to save a link to a file on your PC. We PMd about this a few days ago.

If you can figure out the MSDS labels, I know you can do this.

    Dear ruby,

While i appreciate your kind words i would caution you to not be so easily impressed.

There are plenty of folks out there who would probably tell you I'm an effing prick, just ask those folks who are with companies with products that don't work well or don't work at all.

Ask the bed bugs, they'll tell ya !

Thanks again and have a nice day ! paul b.

Yes, it's important to know about your situation when you have bed bugs. Sometimes the more and more we question you, the more information is extracted (like pulling teeth) that may not have seemed important so you didn't put it out there at first. So just so you don't have to scroll back now, I've posted info that's important here (from Paul's post) although I'm putting them in a different order because if you actually have a decent image and it isn't a bed bug, then we don't have to know the rest and the post will be shorter.

    * Have you actually seen live bed bugs?
    * Has the presence of live bed bugs been confirmed and by whom?
    * Photos: post photos using your Macro setting and make them as clear as possible by using a suitable background and decent lighting. Macro setting often is icon of a tulip or word "macro"
    * Photos: post photos of pest top view, bottom view, front view and back view (just in case)

    * What control work has been done already and by whom?
(And if there are no bed bugs, then why is control being conducted?)

    > We need to know what's happened but try to be concise.
    > We need to know certain details including:
    * Where you live (city, state, town, country)
    * Single family home or apartment?
    * Rent or own?
    * Who lives there with you?
    * Pets, how many and what kind?
    * Bites? who is being bitten?
    * How long has this been going on? dates are good !
    * How you think you got bed bugs at your place?
    * List your questions & concerns as best you can.

    Thanks, Lou! That's helpful.

If any other experts or Bedbuggers want to make any additional or different suggestions, this will be made into a FAQ shortly.
