David wrote in the Stress Busters thread,

    Hi,

Can I ask a few people to have a look at ASMR audio which came to my attention because of recent reports that they are very good at helping insomniacs to regain normal sleep patterns.

It reminds me of some experimental audio work I heard in the early 1980's which used microphones embedded in the ears of a dummy head to capture the real stereo effect. The sound of a haircut was just amazing and at times you could really "feel" the location of the scissors.

I have listen to a few of them today and I think if I was laying down in a dark room this would relax me a lot although I suspect a few of the readers might prefer a chocolatey smooth male voice rather than a low and husky female one.

Please let me have some feedback as I think this is an approach with merit.

    David

This article, http://www.asmrlab.com/, says that not everyone can experience Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). If you can, please note that different people have different personal triggers. You can search for a variety of ASMR well before bed time so that you don’t get over-stimulated.

Below is an example of page turning ASMR:

    To the (long-term) night owls,

Don't get frustrated if you don't have immediate results. Funny, I am writing this for myself as well. Is it 21 days to change a not-so-good habit? Well, I have to reset mine as it is not as simple as it seems when I want to get up real early in the morning for laundries and all the cleaning fun and to finish them by certain hour so that I can wake up real early the next day. A boomerang effect.

This article may give you some helpful tips.

Peace and comfort...are important, especially when it's bed time. If you like hymns, give them a try.

So true and you're welcome, Daylight. David and others who have/had trouble sleeping along with my poor sleeping habit inspired me to start this thread. David mentioned Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) in the Stress Busters thread. Thanks, David and other forum users!

Exigent added another trick to help you fall asleep faster in the 4 Tricks to Fall Asleep Faster article:

Every person has a hidden or overt passion such as a hobby, but in this case of trying to get to sleep, it should be something you don't normally get to do for various reasons. It should not be an arousing activity, such as a sex act that you should visualize, but maybe a favourite activity such as making furniture, setting up the dream garden you don't have time for, or going on a holiday, say on a cruise.

In my case, it is firing a steam locomotive from dead cold. It's an involved and lengthy process where steps must be taken in sequence. I lie in bed, relax for a second or to, burp, whatever, and then begin to go through all the steps.

Next thing I know, it's morning. Try finding your hobby or pastime that you just don't manage to do, pick a favourite activity about it, something that is sequential, and then mentally go through the steps...BUT actually VISUALIZE yourself performing them. I guarantee you'll be gone in a jiffy.

You can find more tips in the Comments section below the linked article.

Instead of thinking while laying down, perhaps concentrate on your breathing. I have read about the 4-7-8 breathing technique more than once. The details can be found here.

Information on Binaural Beats or Theta Waves can be found on the linked YouTube webpages. I picked out 2 important points:

“Be sure to wear headphones, relax and set your intention. Please do not listen to binaural beats while doing heavy physical work or driving.”

“The binaural beat provided is never to be used as a replacement for the advice of your physician or health care provider or as a replacement to modern medicine. This video should not be used for diagnosing or treating a health problem or disease. If you believe you have a medical condition or problem, contact your health care provider. These videos are to be used in conjunction with normal treatments.”

I've tried some of these binaural beats to help me sleep at night because I am waking up every couple of hours to make sure my arms and legs are covered so I'm not getting bitten.

Thanks for the ASMR links, alefantti!

Not knowing better then, I might have threw away my new headphone. Even if I still have it, I am sure someone would already have overdosed it with pesticides. I know I sound like a broken record, but that's my situation.
