OK... I know I've bothered you all a lot the past 24 hrs. I have read the FAQ quite a bit but there is a lot I'm still trying to figure out. I have almost all my clothing bagged up and ready to wash right now, but I have a question for those of you without washer/dryers in your homes. I.E. you use your apartment's facilities or a laundromat. How do you keep from contaminating your clothes as they come out of the dryer? Because obviously, as you put those clothes into the washer, they're going to contact you and probably what you are wearing, so the clothes you are wearing will be contaminated, and then remain contaminated later as you take the laundry out of the dryer, even if you put it straight into plastic bags- if you do any kind of folding and/or just accidentally brush against it, it seems that all the hard work has been in vain! Please help me out here... I am sure I am missing something really obvious. Thanks for your patience.

bugged: don't make yourself crazy - i know that's easier said than done. I think unless you are dripping w/ bugs it is unlikely that they will fall off of the clothes you are wearing & into the clothes you just washed. Truth be told I wore junk clothes when I initially went through the laundry & then I threw them away. I threw away a lot of things when this first started & I don't think that was either necessary or practical. I was freaking out.

You could buy a new outfit to change into after you load the washer & then put the outfit you were just wearing into the washer too. Probably all that is not necessary though.

Buggedout16, I have agonized over these types of questions too. Eventually you learn what bugbattler suggested - it's unlikely that the clothing you are wearing will contaminte the laundry.

My bigger problem is when I accidentally drop an item. Is it then contaminated? Do I wash it all over again (an expensive proposition when you are using a laundromat). Or do you examine the item and hope for the best?

I think with BB, it's about risk-management. Sometimes the risk is so small, you don't need to sweat it.

OK thanks. Yeah I am really freaking out, too bad, I tend to do that anyway even before BBs :-) I guess I need to go ahead and get started. I think I need to change out of these clothes though, I have been doing alot of cleaning in the bedroom with them so who knows what is on there. Yuck. I hate these little creatures.

I think the likelihood of a bed bug crawling quickly onto an item when dropped for a moment in a laundromat is pretty slim.

I also think that if the items are carefully sealed in bags before going to the laundry, and you quickly move them into the machines, you are not in terrible danger of getting them on yourself.
