help please? only found 1 bb in my brand new bed
(14 posts)-
I am about to have my 4th child and I just found 1 bed bug in my BRAND NEW freakin bed. I seriously just got my bed a week and a half ago, new bedding, pillows, curtains and everything in my room. I of course washed and vaccuumed everything when I first got it. I am a super clean housekeeper and I just dont know what to do! I can hardly keep up with my regular housework as it is, and I have an exterminator coming tomorrow but have heard its going to cost $1500 or more which I absolutely cannot afford. Plus all the packing up/washing of clothes/toys and everything else when Im this pregnant. And I cant bare the thought of bringing home a newborn to a house full of bugs/chemicals. Not to mention my other children are all under the age of 6! I feel like I am going to have a total meltdown, and I am never going to be able to go to sleep....Sorry to complain Im just feeling so overwhelmed by all this

ugghhh. . It's awful, isn't it?!?
However, I am afraid being a super clean housekeeper and replacing your bed won't get rid of them. I wish it were that easy! They hide in the tinnest cracks and come out at night to bite you, then infest your new bed! Did you encase your new mattress?
You have to have the room/s treated and more than once. These things are awful!
I know some how you feel. I have 3 in diaper and this daily work of ridding them is more than I can keep up with! I am sorry for your troubles. This is just awful!

yeah I encased my new mattress, but reading on here Im not sure its the right kind. thanks for your support, I just never realized how big of a problem this could all be. Hopefully I will feel better after I talk to the exterminater tomorrow. and good luck with your problem too

F O M: first, a hug. BB, unfortunately, can come from anywhere and via anything, including "new" items. Give yourself credit for catching them and hope that your diligence in housekeeping will help you in your efforts to control. Please stick around, read up and ask questions. We're here for you (at least those of us not hawking steamers).

Hi there. Hugs to you. Please try to relax a bit (I know, easier said than done, especially with children around). You likely caught this before it turned into a big infestation – sounds like you’ve been very diligent about inspecting, cleaning, etc. Please try to call around for licensed PCO estimates. The sooner you can get the PCO, the better. Do you know of any BB dogs in the area? They are a great resource to help determine where the problem is. Please keep us posted!

Have the exterminator inspect that bed. If it's clearly the source of the infestation, demand recompense from the store that sold it to you.

Where did you buy this bed ? Are you in the US ? I'd get my money back now, and never buy from them again.

I had someone come out today and verify that its definitely a bb that I found. We couldnt find any other signs of them so far, but they are sending their specialist out saturday and hopefully spraying or whatever for them early next week. any advice on this? like is it actually going to get rid of them? I rent a single family home and Im really hoping the landlord is going to pay for it even though we have been there 4 years and I dont really see how it could be their fault but its not mine either! Oh and what about my children and me being pregnant? am I going to have to be out of the house for days and days and then wash everything in hot water? thanks for all the help, Im already feeling much better just from understanding people. My mom and hubby think Im just over-reacting but they weren't up until 4 am reading horror stories about bb!! 1 more thing, my new mattress we just got is financed, so we havent even made the first payment on it yet. Do you think under warranty I can have them take it back and not have to pay for it? I dont know if there is anyway of proving thats where they came from, but it makes the most sense considering they just showed up with the new bed! its not even refurbished it was brand new. OH SO FRUSTRATING! thanks again everyone!

Some companies deliver new and haul away old bedding. Do these guys? It is possible that if these guys do that it may have just been a single hitchhiker and you dodged a bullet.
Be vigilant and absolutely have a full inspection.

you may have already seen this, as it was all over the media circles, but here it is. an article about Sleepy's that was held from being published in a newspaper a few weeks ago bc the company is a major advertiser. sorry if a repeat:

I'm late to this thread, but I've read about JC Penney and I think another store getting sued over bed bug deliveries. Since you just got the mattress and places pick up old ones and keep them on the truck with the new ones (EWWW!) and Sleepys probably does too, I'd actually get a lawyer and make them pay for the PCO and every other thing involved. It's easier for them to pay you off (since no doubt this has happened before!) than risk you taking them to court. At least you caught it early. Hopefully early enough.

Sleepy's has something called the "Comfort Exchange Policy." If you are unhappy with your bed for any reason during the first 21 days that you own it, you can exchange it for a different one.
So the question is, what happens to that first bed that gets sent back to the store? Presumably the store sells it as "new." So even if you buy a new mattress you could be buying one that has already been in someone else's home for 21 days?
You could call them to clarify this.
