I recently moved into my new apartment in Philadelphia, and I've been here for just over a month now. I noticed that underneath most of the radiators and in various other spots around the apartment, there are cockroach traps laid. I saw the first cockroach in this apartment about three weeks ago, and just tonight I was able to find their nest. An exterminator is coming over tomorrow to hopefully take care of them for good.

My problem is, though, that I've noticed another bug in my apartment, more specifically my bedroom. The first one I saw was perhaps two weeks ago in my bed, and since then I've seen two more (another of which was in my bed, and the third was in a pile of clothes on my closet floor. I'm concerned that these may be cockroach nymphs, in which case that means they are breeding in more than just the nest that we found. Could someone please help me identify what these tiny bugs could be?? I think I might actually be relieved to know that they were bedbugs, or something else. Cockroaches are the worst, in my opinion.

    DESCRIPTION
    - Small bugs, about the size of the colored ball at the tip of a small/medium sized sewing pin.
    - Very bulbous body, looks like a tiny walking balloon.
    - At least 6-8 small to medium length legs, and it moved very slow.
    - Deep red/maroon in color.

I've also thought that perhaps they are ticks, as my bed is underneath a window (currently with a window AC unit installed, which means at least SOME small openings to the outside), and the window itself is exposed to tree branches.

My last thought was possibly lice. I know lice are not apt to walk (their legs are shaped to hook onto hair), so that could explain the slow speed? But I didn't think lice were a deep red color, even after feeding. In addition, I'm *nearly* bald (both on my head and pubic area), so I wouldn't expect finding lice or pubic lice in my bed (I also do not share my bed with anyone).

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What I did/do is: catch the bug on some clear tape, photograph the bug as closely as you can manage, and then post the pictures up here for the experts to examine. If you need help posting, someone can help. That way it's not just based on descriptions.

By no means a guarantee but

Would fit a spider beetle which are a common find. Google up some pics of those and get some shots of your finds to post.

I looked up pictures of juvenile spider beetles and that is EXACTLY what they are! Thanks for the quick responses and help guys, I appreciate it.

    A few questions -

    - Are spider beetles harmless? That is, should I be concerned when I spot them in my bed?
    - Do they feed on blood? Or if not, will they still bite?
    - Will they attract cockroaches? Will cockroaches eat them? I'd like to keep the roaches OUT of my bedroom until the extermination happens, but will the presence of these spider beetles hinder that?

    And most importantly...

    - What is the best way to get rid of them? Do you think they are making their way into my room through the AC window unit?

Thanks so much guys!! I appreciate it!
