    I found this flat backed bug. The closer I look, the more I think its not a bed bug, especially as the pictures add some detail on the back I couldn't see with my eye.

    Any thoughts?

    It's a beetle, NOT a bed bug !

    This type of beetle looks to be an outdoor type critter. What region of the country do you live in?

    Thanks! I've been quite worried ever since the hotel I stayed in a couple weeks ago had bed bugs.

    I live in NYC but I was out in the woods yesterday.

    No, it's not necessarily an outdoor one. Not a common species of carpet beetle, but related to the black carpet beetle.
