Help do I tell the LL?
(2 posts)-
So my roommate and I rented a house in a multihouse complex last fall and woke up every morning with 20-30 bedbugs on our beds the first couple days. We called our landlord and had a PCO come in and check and sure enough found bedbugs. They started the treatment, though they couldn't start until a week later because they were so backed up with bedbug cases around the area (near a university). They did a second treatment a week later but we still found bedbugs... found them TOO easily. My roommate and I couldn't stand it anymore - trying to sleep in the house being the food source so the landlord let us leave, canceling the contract. When the PCO started the treatment, we did everything we were told. Bagged the mattresses, washed and dried all of our clothing, put them in heavy duty garbage bags, and stored them in our cars. We threw away all that we could when we moved, including our mattresses.
After our move my roommate has been fine, she has not been bit but I have apparently brought some bedbugs over with me. I can't imagine how. So since our move last September, I have found 3-4 bedbugs and have been bitten ~15 times total. I've tried 'Spray Away Bedbugs' (sprayawaybedbugs.com) recently. Although I haven't sprayed much since I've been doubting its effect on being able to kill all the bedbugs.
My main concern is now that I've been living here for 7 months, how many bedbugs have laid eggs and how many are there behind the walls?? How quickly do they multiply? Luckily, I've only seen 3-4 bedbugs over the last 7 months as opposed to the 20-30 I've seen over 3 days in the other place.
My other worry is that maybe I should let my LL know. I'm afraid that it is going to be my responsibility... and I don't know how to be up front with him. Should I tell him about our case before our move? Or leave that information out?
With my 7-8 months of experience with these bedbugs, I've found that it is nearly impossible to get rid of it all. I plan on throwing out as much furniture as I can afford when I move out at the end of May. I've been hoping that there has only been those 3-4 bedbugs total within this house so I haven't done much about it. Plus I've been extremely busy with school and have been putting it off, honestly. I figured to be brave about it and continue sleeping in my bed and catch them as I get bit, as horrible as that sounds. Luckily I have only found them on my bed.
Btw, this new house is really old. The exterior has been redone(?) so it looks nice on the outside, but the inside molding and carpet is a mess. The cracks between the floor and the wall molding(?) are huge, ~1/2 inch. Thinking that the bugs may be hiding there. -
Have you thought about getting a quality steamer?
