Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Introductions
Hello
(4 posts)-
Just wanted to introduce myself. I picked up bb from a hotel in Toronto on a business trip and brought them home with me. I had about 60-70 bites on my back, arms, face and ears. I just had my home treated and am sitting here in my living room on a patio chair. My leather sofa and armchair had slight tears and were infested, they had to go.
I did suffer from panic attacks about 10 years ago and got through it with a lot of work, counseling and recognizing when I'm in situations that can trigger them. I've been panic-free until now. On the initial discovery that they were in my bedroom I had a big panic attack, then again during the next two days. I think I'm slowly regaining my sanity but I still can't believe how disruptive to your life this is.
About 12 hours after staying at the hotel I started feeling itchy that night. Got home and woke up the next day to welts, extreme itching and pain. Went to the dr. and he had no idea what they were. All weekend I tried everything - calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream, nothing worked. Went to work the next Monday and was a nightmare, every other person was asking what happened to my arms, etc. The next day I went back to the dr. and was told to take Benedryll (I was taking Arius - does nothing), given anti-biotics for infection, topical antibiotics and a topical Benedryll spray (heaven!). The following morning, 5 1/2 days after returning home from the trip, we found them. 5 by the head board in the carpet and a couple of casings in the bed, and one in the bedside table. GROSS! Panic. Frantic. Examine sofa. Yep. They are there too. Spend all day calling bug guys, junk removal guys, carpet cleaner guys. Bagged up all clothing and linens. Got the sofa and chair out. Carpets cleaned. Clothing and linens washed and dried - also chucked out a bunch of stuff I didn't want to bother washing. Suitcase is gone too.
The following morning, 6 days after returning home, the bug guys came. So that was last Thursday (5 days ago), no new bites... and my old bites and slowly coming down. Still itchy though 11 days after getting bitten. Not as bad as they first "I want to rip my skin off" itchy but 24 hours/day dull itchy. I'm going to see the dr. again tomorrow and see about going to a dermatologist. My skin scars very easily so I want to make sure these aren't permanent.
Every morning at about 4 or 5 am I'm waking up and my arms are super itchy. I've been wearing socks on my hands so I don't scratch in my sleep. Can't explain the waking up thing. Anyway, I'm glad to meet 'ya and let's kill these little buggers!

It's great that you have had 5 days bite free. Who are your pest control guys and what did they use?
When my bites itch/hurt really bad I use a little stick by Cutter called Bite MD. I think it may have some anesthetic in it, but not sure. It seems to be the only thing that soothes it for me. (Not an advertisement, I promise.

I'm in BC Canada and went with bcbug.com. I liked that they had a lot of experience. I asked if I could pay extra for DDT, LOL! They didn't seem to think that was too funny. I never even asked what they'd use. Rookie, I guess. I see on my invoice that they used pyrethrin, tempo wp and ficam d.
I'm also really thinking about getting that packtite thing for luggage. Can you just buy it from a dept. store? I like to travel and I don't want to let this ruin it for me. Although from now on and forever I'll be checking the bed/mattress before getting in.
Also really hoping that since we jumped on it within one week our infestation isn't too bad. Is 60-something bites a lot? It sure seems like it to me. Really wondering how munch longer they're going to be itchy for too. Bleh!
