Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Tools/ideas for fighting bed bugs
Have I got a tip for you!

Tell your PCO you have silverfish and get them to spray for that. It's illegal because the spray is not approved for bedbugs (for stupid political reasons) but so far this seems to be verrry effective for me!

what are silverfish?
-
It's a bug - they are longish, silver, lots of legs. They apparently like damp places and I've seen them before in a bathtub of a motel. Check out google to find a picture.

Not a very good tip .. sorry.
Most products on the market are labeled for a number of different insects.
Like most insects, silverfish will also require a multi level approach for eradication. The first being, removing the conditions that are conducive to a pest infestation. Ever hear of silverfish packs? -
KQ,
I think Grindstone is saying s/he doesn't have silverfish at all, but said s/he did so the PCO would use the silverfish treatment against the bed bugs.
What was this chemical, Grindstone?
In any case, I don't think it's a good idea. Bed bugs require complex treatment and you're better off getting someone who knows they're treating bed bugs and will do it right.

More of this, silverfishes are highly sensitive to pesticides: vegetal pyrethrum can kill them in seconds, while is ineffective against bedbugs...

Silverfish are usually caused by damp issues which can be solved through changes in the environment more than the use of chemicals. A professional will know that, if they choose to treat your for silverfish because they cant find bed bugs then you may or may not have bed bugs but you certainly dont have a professional pest controller.
As tips go I have to say this is probably the most silly I have seen to date and possibly a potential Darwin award.

I partially agree... in Europe (don't know if in USA too) there are two kinds of silverfish you can usually find in home: Lepisma and Ctenolepisma.
Lepisma is surely damp related, but Ctenolepisma (really common too) is not. -
KillerQueen and David you misunderstood.
To clarify: I do not have silverfish. I most definately do have bed bugs. I am following normal BB protocol in all aspects, other than the ADDITION of this particular chemical. This chemical (keep in mind, I am from CANADA) is not certified to be used on BB bug it is on silverfish. The reason why is because it would cost the government 250 million dollars or something to be able to certify it for good use on Bedbugs.I'm not about to do something stupid in this scenario, trust me. This is a good tip!
NoBugsOnMe - I'll go find the slip with the chemical name - I'll get with that back soon.

Grindstone, thanks for getting the name.
Does your PCO know you have bed bugs?
Thanks for clarifying.

Sorry for the delay, but the following chemicals are what have gotten RID of my bed bugs! (At least I have not had ANY evidence of them since May 13/09. (It is now Sept 12/09) I have even put my bed back to normal and am living a 'normal' life again.
Prelude: 0.5%, 2L (PCP#26509)
Catalyst: 0.5% 1L (PCP# 25149)
Bendiocarb 1% 30g (PCP#16080)Tried just pyrethrin with my first PCO with no success.
Good luck!
