Has anyone used the sofa encasements for bed bugs?
(7 posts)-
I'm so paranoid that I'm tempted in purchasing the sofa encasements.
I want to know if anyone has tried them. Does it fit properly?
I have a three piece sectional. Does that mean I have to purchase three?
I've seen white ones. Are there any other colors? With three small kids white wouldn't be a good option for us.

The picture makes it look white, but the actual color is very tan. If you click on the banner to the right there is a color swatch. As for the size, they are a 96x42x40 in. box shape, so you can put up to 8 feet worth of furniture inside. I'm not sure it would work with many curved or "L" shaped sofas though.

I just got one last week....Not quite the look I was going for in my living room - a little sloppy looking. But I feel a heck of alot better sitting on the couch! Mine is tan.

Mine is tan.Guess you could buy a washable slip cover and put it over the case. But, if it's so unattractive, why not just buy a $10 giant poly (aka "banana") bag?

What in the world is a banana bag? LOL.
Thanks for helping me out. My sofas are already tan and the color is exact so we would be good on that part. Because of the curvature of my sectional I will have to buy 3 and tuck it in real good so it won't look so sloppy. I'm just worried about my sofa cushions. The part where your back would lean on is not attached to the sofa. It's almost like big throw pillows. I'm wondering if this would be a hassle to fix while an encased cover is on it.

From what I can see on Amazon, a banana bag does not have a closure like the Sofa Safe encasement does, which uses a zipper. The psychological relief, for me, is worth the $149 versus buying a brand new sofa, at the present time. It kind of reminds me of "shabby chic" decorating, but, depending on the shape of your sofa, you can tuck it in so it looks normal.
But, I did think the sofa encasement was treated somehow on the outside to repel bed bugs. This is not the case. Yes, the encasement will prevent bugs from escaping from inside, which means they will eventually die without air or a blood meal. And, keeping them from getting inside is also impossible, since the encasement covers the entire couch and zips tight. The manufacturer says that preventing bugs from getting inside is a plus, in that if they're out in the open, an exterminator's job (or your job) is easier because you can see where they are orgininating and where they go.
The encasement is tan in color (a coffee with milk, color) and it is waterproof. For the money, though, if it was treated with something --- even if it was an additional or optional cost that people could request or not, depending on their lifestyles, if pets or kids would access it, etc --- would make more sense.
