Going Bonkers Here. Dry Steam for Mattress? ANYTHING?(5 posts)
My next professional treatment (#5!) couldn't be scheduled till next Thursday.
Meanwhile, I've never had this many bites at once or seen bugs so brazenly taking over my bed. I see a few every night. Last night one crawled across my shirt like he was casually heading to the kitchen for a beer.
What can I do till they come? (I have little confidence at this point that they can do anything, but I have to at least try.) I have covers on my bed--the bottom one has holes in it from the cat but I plan to duct tape the heck out of it tonight. Will that help? I know I shouldn't use alcohol or wet steam but what about dry steam? Is there a company in NYC that will come and dry steam only the bed?
The bed is not touching the wall, and I have interceptors filled with talc (even though the "genius" at my management company told me to fill them with water.) Meanwhile, I can't sleep, can't focus, and can't really think of doing anything but itching for the rest of my life.
Dry steam on mattresses, bed frame, etc. should be good. I am sure you can get a PCO to do it but not sure who to suggest.
But you might talk to the PCO before you do anything -- if they have not seen evidence, or inspected for harborages, doing so is an important step.
Also, the landlord might need to talk to the neighbors. If you're SUDDENLY seeing lots of bugs, it might mean someone set off a bomb, or otherwise treated in a way that dispersed them, or an infested unit was vacated.
I can think of a few reasons I'm suddenly seeing so many bugs:
Idea 1: I haven't had a treatment in almost a month. Even though I never stopped seeing bugs, maybe they had SOME effect on them.
Idea 2: My neighbors continue to use surface killers only, possibly driving them into my apartment.
Idea 3: The bugs are mutants who hate me.
I would go with idea 3
I was going to suggest giving the pco a call ask for advice. But as you have had 4 treatments already maybe that's not going to help.
Have the other units been inspected
