I'm getting ready for treatment and packing my clothes in bags sitting on the floor. How do I get the bags from the bedroom to the outside for trash, the laundry (on another floor) or the laundramat (in my car) without possibly moving the bed bugs to another part of the house or my car?

If you put all of the stuff your tossing or needs washing into bags and tying them airtight then nothing should be able to get in or out of them. As we packed (cause we did it all in one weekend) - we just tied and labeled the bags wether it was trash or needed to be washed and what room it came from and put it outside. We completely cleared all three bedrooms and left nothing in the rooms except for the bed and furniture. Hope this helps!

So I don't have to worry about bb on the bottom of the bags on the floor? The bedroom is small, so they're pretty close to the footboard of the bed also.

Before my treatment, I would bag up any trash in double bags and take it immediately to the garbage. It was a slow process, but it seemed safer than risking the spread.

As for laundry, I pretty much did the same thing: I bagged up what I was going to launder just before I took it out of the house, used only large ziplocks for the laundry, dumped the laundry right into the machines, tossed the sealed "dirty" bags, and put the clean laundry into new ziplocks to take it home.

However, that may not be a lot of help in terms of advice since with thermal, I didn't have to launder everything at once.

Slippery plastic is harder for them to get traction on than some other substances. If you want to be more sure, probably limiting how long the bags sit on the floor is a good idea.

And, for what it's worth, when I needed someplace to store things temporarily, I used the bathtub, because I knew I could bring boiling water in and dump that all over the tub afterwards with impunity. Between a good stew pot of boiling water and my electric kettle, I had enough boiling water to feel safe that the tub was decontaminated.

Bathtubs are a great half-way point idea.

Many of us leave our luggage in a hotel room bathtub while we search the room for bed bugs.

Of course, in rare cases, people have infested bathrooms (often because bed bugs are spreading via pipe fittings in apartments), but for most people this is not the case.

I know this is an old post, but it's something I was wondering about, too. I can't do all my laundry at once d/t limited washers/dryers in my apartment's laundry room, and also limited hours. So I have some clothes bagged up and sitting on my floor, in double trash bags with the openings duct taped shut. If I can't do them as soon as I bag them, what about placing them in yet ANOTHER bag that I duct tape shut right before I take them to the laundry?

Also, what about my laundry stuff- i.e. detergent, dryer sheets, bag of quarters... where should I keep that in my apartment? There's always a chance they could get bugs while I'm doing my laundry right? Should I just put them in a ziploc bag as soon as I get back into the apartment? Right now I just inspected the bag really carefully and set it on the floor near the front door- bad idea? I'm thinking so; I could be spreading to the living room (if not there already).

Thanks... everyone is so patient here.
