I admit it...I am obsessed with avoiding bed bugs.
I was standing by the luggage carousel waiting along with everyone else for our bags from an international flight, when along comes an immigration/customs/drug enforcement official (not sure what he was exactly) with a beagle dog on a leash. The dog goes from one piece of hand luggage to the next, sniffing for all the things they don't let you bring into the country: drugs, plants, meats, etc., and all I can think of while I'm watching him is "wouldn't it be great if he were sniffing for bed bugs like the K9 dogs!" The dog found an apple (forbidden fruit!) in a passenger's bag, LOL. I wish there were a service at the airports where you could have your luggage sniffed by the bb K9's! Would anyone else be willing to pay for such a service? Before I get anyone's hopes up sadly, I am so not qualified to start such a business. Besides freaking out over bed bugs, I'm also allergic to dogs! But if anyone wants to take that idea and run with it, please do as I promise to be a customer!

You know I was thinking the same thing!!! The airlines should have BB dogs to sniff out airplane seats as well. I'm totally obsessed with these things too. It's like once you've been there you never want to go back. These bugs really bring out the OCD in me.
That would be a good way to prevent people bringing these bugs into the U.S.

Well, unfortunately the bugs are already in this country, and probably everywhere else too. It'd be great if you could just bring your luggage into your house and unpack "normally" if the luggage passed the K9 sniff test.
