Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Detection / Identification of bed bugs
frightened - please help me and tell me if I am safe or not
(3 posts)-
I am hoping that someone can help me and hopefully calm me down or tell me what to do. A few months ago I went to an old movie theater and then went shopping and tried clothing on in a nice department store and hung out for a while and when I came home about 9 hours after the movie I had a bite that itched like crazy - I had to put cortazone on it every hour for several hours - and I realized that I most likely got it during the movie.
I actually went and googled the movie theater and someone wrote that they got a bed bug bite at the same movie theater during the same movie that I saw. I was freaking out, but was happy that I didn't just come right home. It's been about 3 months (bite was the first week in August) and I still freak out at every speck I find and every little itch I feel. We immediately examined our clothing and didn't find anything and then washed and dried the clothing on high heat just to be safe.
I was wondering if someone could just let me know that if I had a problem I would know by now. I sleep with my closet light on and my glasses and a night light on... I never have a comfortable sleep since the bite I got. I examine my bed and sheets (all white) all the time and didn't notice anything since then except for two or three little black dots and nothing since then and those dots could have been there for a while. Also, I haven't had any bites since that day...

Frightened, I do not doubt that you were bitten by a bedbug at the movies...it seems to be happening more frequently these days.
However, if you haven't had any bites in 5 weeks or longer, you can mostly relax. You would very likely have been bitten since then. BB's need to feed in order to reach adulthood and reproduce...so by now you'd likely have more and more bites as time went on. That doesn't mean to stop being aware (as I'm sure you are now!) and vigilant. Hope this helps you sleep a little more soundly :)

Thank you so much for responding. You really helped me and I think I will definitely sleep better tonight. I also asked my exterminator to take a look and make sure everything is okay here. I am hoping you're right and since I haven't been bitten then I should be okay.
I can only hope that one day this issue is resolved for everyone and that these blood-feeding buggers go extinct.
Thanks again and have a great bug-free day =)
