I have another question about treating bed bug infested items. Can they be frozen? I am talking about smaller items like jewelry, etc. and if so, how long do they need to remain in the freezer. I am reading/hearing conflicting stories on the topic of freezing as treatment and for how long.
It's 5 am and I should be sleeping, but I am on this site instead! I can't take the bites anymore!
    Thanks

Yeah, freezing is nothing to trust against bedbugs. Apparently, they can seem as if they've frozen to death, only to come back to life once they've been out of the freezer long enough!

we tested on 2 bugs, one was a full grown adult, about 4mm and the other was a young adult about 2mm. they bit me, we caught them and put them in separate ziploc bags. it was late in the night, we stuck them in the freezer, went to bed, so the freezer stayed closed, and the next day, took out the bugs. all in all, they were in there for about 8 hours. the bbs seemed dead at that time, but we kept them on the table, to keep an eye. we thought that, maybe, they will come back to life after they have had enough time to defrost, thaw. They seemed to stay dead.

It's been more than 2 months now, still in their zip locs, the smaller one literally disintegrated while the bigger one is still dead. they looks have changed though, they've gotten darker with a weird sheen. i tried to take a photo of it but the zoom on the camera just couldn't capture the bug well enough!

that's just our little experiment with freezing...

I too had success with freezing stuff. I would put pillows in our chest freezer during the day, all the stuff that was washed and dried or memories that could not tolerate the above, I stored in our garage. It was winter and the stuff was there until we moved. About 2 months in the harsh Nebraska winters. I made a successful move without any bugs and I am still bug free after 2 1/2 yrs. I truly believe that bugs cannot tolerate the cold and it freezes their insides. Good luck with whatever you do. The end results, no matter how you get there, is most peaceful. Now if I could get rid of the fleas, I would be happy. Wait for the first frost! Love to my bedbugger family!
