Frantic and unsure of what to do(8 posts)
My daughter would go to bed and 45 minutes later (around 10-ish) come crying to me with welts everywhere. I've washed and heated (repeat innumberable times) her bedding. She doesn't have the same reaction in my bed; I however was getting red welts in my bed.
We steam cleaned both beds/sheets, whatever we could. Thinking perhaps it was fleas, we bombed this past weekend while we were out of town.
Last night, I saw very teeny brownish things crawling on her bed but couldn't find any on mine.
We pulled a different mattress into an annex of my BR where she slept on the floor without any bites. I slept in my bed and had 3 bites on the inside of my arm this morning but much smaller than they have been (a small red welt as opposed to an enormous red blotch)
I thought I saw a bug once but I'm not sure what I've seen at this point. We are moving in 3 weeks and getting rid of all the bedding anyway....suggestions on what to do.
Trap one of the brown bugs you see on some tape (being careful not to SQUISH it) and then post a picture for one of the experts to try to identify. And if you do have BBs, you might want to call an extermnator...even if you throw out all your bedding, you might accidentally have some hitchhikers on other belongings.
Also, don't sleep places you haven't been bitten; this can spread the infestation.
Also wanted to add, that when either of us is away from the house (her at her father's house or I at my boyfriends or traveling) we have never been bitten at all. It is only in this house - FWIW - we are renting this house and are not aware of any previous issues; this has been going on since about March....
don't move until you treat everything bc if you have bb's, which are VERY hard to find sometimes, you'll bring them with you to your next residence.
Small brownish bugs? Were they oval at all? Try taking a picture asap. In the meantime, call an exterminator for a free inspection.
Your best option is to get a pest control professional who knows bed bugs in to inspect your current place.
Bed bugs, despite their name, do not just live in bedding. You could throw out every mattress, box spring, and bed frame in your current residence and still take bed bugs with you to the new location.
To get rid of bed bugs, most people need several treatments several weeks apart from a pest management professional.
The fact that you're moving in a few weeks makes things more complicated in some ways, as three weeks is generally not enough time to eradicate a bed bug infestation.
However, depending on where you are, if Vikane or heat are available, you may be able to treat the bugs in a single treatment.
Heat or Vikane can be used on a truck full of all your belongings to kill all the bed bugs and eggs between your current place and the new one. It's not cheap to treat the whole truck, but it may be comparable to the cost of replacing all the items that you might throw away in an attempt to get rid of the bugs.
If you haven't read the FAQs , I would start there.
Hope that helps.
I've been emailing with PCO that was recommended for DC area on another thread. I hope this will solve the issue!
Are these bites?
