Found two insects in bathroom - what is it???

It definitely sounds like you know what bed bugs look like, and are pretty confident that what she saw weren't bed bugs. So that's good, right? There was recently a post and someone mentioned spider beetles, they look a bit like what you're saying:

Might be spider beetles, they show up everywhere and are as common as house flies. Check http://www.whatsthatbug.com/pantry.html. They got some pictures of spider beetles at the middle of their page.

I recently found several small bugs, the size of ticks, but shaped like lady bugs. I was able to confirm that they are carpet beatles - very common at this time of year. My exterminator said not to worry about them - it doesn't mean I have an infestation. They have grey and black stripes. Maybe this is what you found?

Hi,
Have a look at:
www.Bed-Bugs.co.uk/carpetbeetles
and
www.bed-bugs.co.uk/birdmites.html
From the decription it sounds more like a bird mite and there does seem to have been an increase in activity this year although it could be that I am just getting called in to look at more cases.

Might be:

Hi,
With insects it is possible to get bitten and not respond regardless of what type of insect it is. This is the main reason why people cant go on bites alone.
The best thing you can do is get am image that others can help identify for you or get a sample to an entomologist for analysis.
Until you know exactly whats going on and what it is then treatment should not start.

When you find a strange insect, drop it in rubbing alcohol and take to an entomologist.
Or to look yourself, go to a school science dept and look at bug under their dissecting scopes, or with a strong (10x) magnifying glass. Many questions can be resolved if bug is preserved in alcohol.
