I was sitting in on the couch last night and noticed a single bug crawling on my white couch pillow. I was set to kill it and thought that it could possibly be a bed bug so I put it in a baggy. When my boyfriend got home he confirmed that it was a bed bug, as did the internet, and is now freaking out, taking every precautionary measure possible.

Now, we just moved into a new apartment three weeks ago and have never had bed bugs. Today we are set to strip the couch cover, bed linens and all loose clothing we have had around for the past week and take it to the laundromat. We also will call the super and let him know, ask him if anyone else in the building has bed bugs, or if the previous resident did. Hopefully he will agree to send out a exterminator for precautionary measures.

With no other signs of bug - in the mattress, couch, sheets and no bites - (possibly one on my boyfriend but we can't confirm really) - my question is: is there anything else we should do to make sure this doesn't blow up on us?

Reading a bit more...very similar to the story found here. http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/found-a-bug-pictured-but-no-bites

As a matter of fact, their picture is exactly what the bug we found looks like...

Wow similar story to me! I found a single bedbug on my wall during the daytime..It was a young bedbug because it was still clear looking with a lil black dot on it..I bagged it and had the exterminator come over and identify it and it was in fact a bedbug. I searched my bedding and washed my sheets and such and found NO evidence of bedbugs...I bought mattress and pillow covers specifically for bedbug enclosure and I never got bit (unless I just don't react to bites?)...I didn't find another bedbug and forgot all about the problem but about 7-8 months later...Dun dun dunnn...I was sitting on the couch around 8 months later and saw something crawling towards me...I looked and it ran into a crevice on the couch...I looked closer and it was a bedbug...same stage as the one I caught before...I caught it and bagged it..Once again I had the exterminator come and he said it was a bedbug...He didn't search the apartment for bedbugs either time though! He just asked me questions...Have I been bitten (no) is my bed covered? (yes) have i traveled recently (no)...My school had a bedbug situation a few weeks before I found the first bedbug so I figured as did the exterminator that the bedbug just was a stray that climbed on my bag...but this one..I graduated..Im not even at that school anymore...It can't be a stray from school. Plus how likely is that anyway..That I keep picking up strays. So its once again...One lone bedbug and no bites...

I am moving to another state in a few months and I don't know what to do to avoid getting bedbugs in my new home! I am freaked out about this..Even if I am NOT getting bit! I still don't know how to find out IF I do have an infestation because this is NYC its gross and all infected to begin with! Ugh! So gross!

Oh also, even though I don't know whether I react to bedbug bites or not..I have a friend that had bedbugs a few years ago and she DOES react to bedbug bites and she started sleeping over often this year (not while she had the bedbug problem which wasn't really bad and was treated fast)..anyway..Point I am making is she DOES react to bites and sleeps over my house a lot now and has not reacted to any bites so even if I don't react IF THERE WERE bedbugs here biting she would react..so yea...IF I do have an infestation they are not biting...

Is it really possible to have 2 bedbugs in an 8 month period both in the same stage and NOT have an infestation!?!?
