So, we've been sprayed twice, and were totally, totally diligent about isolating fabrics/heat-treating everything. It's been about 3 weeks since the 2nd spray and we're still keeping stuff in plastic. I just found a live one tonight, on top of my dresser. It occurs to me I have no idea how it got there--it was lying on its back and is/was in its death throes. I was in the process of putting my suitcase back in my storage bay, over the dresser--so it could have been disturbed and fallen out of that area, or I guess it could have crawled its way there to die during the day. In any case, it hadn't been lying there this morning.
We haven't had bites in weeks. Our beds are sealed in plastic. We spray OTC stuff weekly on our baseboards etc. The PCO told us we didn't have an infestation in our apartment and that the stuff he put down during the 2nd spray would last 2 months.
So, my question: is it reasonable assume that this f$cker wandered in from a neighboring unit, encountered our poisons, and died? I know the whole building has had problems on and off for 2 years now (hooray for not having that knowledge when I moved in). The landlord is trying to deal with it and lets us get the PCO whenever we want. I am going to set up a third spray, but I just cannot figure out how or where they are surviving in this apartment. They must be coming in from a neighbor! Right?

I accept the fact that I have to be vigilant about this so long as I live in NYC, in this building, and probably so long as I have the stuff I currently own. But I am now freaking out again about the prospect of sleeping in my bed tonight.

it sounds as though you are making headway! only one bug sighting (and a dying one at that) in the last few weeks sounds good. keep up the sprays!

have the neighbors been inspected as well? it's possible that the straggler you found wandered out of some of your own items, but it could be from another apartment as well. although why a bug would leave an untreated apartment to wander into a treated one is beyond me...
