First Treatment Tomorrow Panicking!
(18 posts)-
Ok so i am going to have my first treatment tomorrow and i bagged up everything i could in my two bedrooms i literally have like 20 trash bags full of clothing in one room. But i am panicking because these clothes arent washed they were in the closet unused for a while. I was wondering if an expert could tell me would it be ok to dry these bags of clothes this weekend after my first treatment? Also i have a closet in my living room full of plastic lock boxes and some winter stuff like coats etc. no one has went in that closet for months but should i still bag them up also i am so terrified that this treatment will not work and we will still have them im doing everything in my power to keep clean by myself everyone in my household seems to think this is a joke no matter how much i explain it to them and my stress has sky rocket through the room. i have a lot of sneaker boxes should i bag those up also? and would electronics be ok like tv games dvd players etc be ok during the treatment. I feel like there is too much stuff in my house to bag up should there be key items to bag up or should everything be bagged up? please i need someone to help me in this stressful situation i feel like my head is about to explode so many things running through my head:'(

My PCO's instruction list did not say to empty my dresser or closets or wash and dry any clothes (the instructions said to take down my curtains and wash them which I didn't do, but they're not long drapes, they're short curtains and bed bugs would have no way to get on them from what I can see, but I'll wash them later or throw them out if I decide to do that instead - it also said to clear away clutter which I did). I decided on my own to wash and dry and ziploc a bunch of clothes during my 2nd treatment since I had a service pick it up before the treatment and deliver it after the treatment was over (no way did I wash and/or dry ALL my clothes - would take forever). I still have not touched anything in my closets other than 2 coats I had dry cleaned that needed cleaning anyway. I also put most of my shoes in black trash bags tied but not tied tightly so I could get my shoes out of the bag when I need to. That's what I've done so far and I knock on wood have not seen a bed bug since the 2nd treatment last Friday, although I know there are the tiny ones that are hard to see (I have never seen a nymph yet but I don't look for them). Go ahead and bag up what you can and do it all later...just my opinion (not an expert, just going thru it myself now). I also bought a Packtite that I plan to start using soon.
If you were not told to clean out your closets, then don't do it. Leave the electronics where they are. Did you find out what they're using to treat?

Oh and make sure as much as possible that the bags are not against the walls since they have to treat those areas. Try to put the bags in the middle of the room or in some area not blocking access to where the treatment will be.

I was just thinking - did your PCO tell you to empty your closets? I think they also need enough room to get around stuff and when you empty your closets like you did and wind up with 20 trash bags of stuff, they need to be able to get around it. It sounds like since you have a 2 bedroom though that that won't be a problem.
I might not be back on here again tonight (but who knows with me), so if not, good luck with your first treatment and let us know how it goes!

Seems to make me feel better knowing im not the only one in NYC with these devils. The pco gave me a whole printed preparation sheet which says to wash all bedding prior to service, empty closets in rooms in which fabrics etc have been stored. all items must be washed in hot water. ALL CLOSETS MUST REMAIN EMPTY SO THE PEST MANAGEMENT PRO CAN SPRAY THE INSIDE OF THE CLOSETS. then it goes on even items in storage should be collected and washed, unplug all electronics devices, then it goes on to say empty desk, dressers and nightstands, a person may not be there when the treatment is being done. make sure to leave the rea for a period of 6 to 8 hours after the treatment is completed. <---- this worries me alot where am i supposed to go???
It seems impossible money wise and time wise to wash everything i own 20 bags would take me a few days. idk what to do my mind keeps racing thinking about after the treatment and if i get them again that means i would be back at square one -
Hi, if you can't do it all now, just concentrate on the areas closest to where you think or were told the main problem is. Like in my case, I have a large studio apartment and mine were almost all located in my box spring. My closets are pretty far away from where my bed was. So let's say your problem is worse where your bed is/was, then start with the clothing/items closest to there. Just tell the PCO you can NOT do it all at once and will work on it as the treatments progress over time. I mean, you can only do what you can do at one time...just work on it progressively over time. I would also question them as to if you REALLY need to empty and wash EVERYTHING. I think they just say to do all that to cover their a$$es in case treatment fails (no offense to any PCO's out there).
I posted a video on here where it says almost all PCO's admit they hardly ever find BB's in closets or in dressers! I'll try to find the link again and private message it to you or post it here.

Oh and leave for 6 to 8 hours? I was told 2 to 3 hours - I took my dog to the park for 3 to 4 hours just to be on the safe side. ASK THEM EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE USING!!! Get them to write down what they're using and then let us know (or let me know, I'm curious).

Oh and also, I definitely think you should encase all the mattresses and box springs in your apartment if you haven't already done that. Mine were tossed since box spring was too far gone.

I keep thinking of more stuff to say. This one is a giant knock wood, but I have NEVER seen a bed bug on any of my clothes. I guess they can have nymphs on them, that I'm not sure about, but I have never seen an adult bed bug on any of my clothing. Hope I didn't just jinx myself now!

Oh and the fact that I always used my bed as a workspace and hardly ever used my leather sofa or dining room table (even to eat, that's what living alone gives you - freedom to do whatever the you know what you want), I'm hoping helped to keep the SOB's from spreading, although I'm concerned about clothes I slept in being on my computer chair (also never used since I got a lap top a couple of years ago) mixed with other clothes I would just leave there until I got to put them away (which wasn't always promptly lol...another benefit to living alone!). So maybe due to my habits I'll get through this okay, I'm hoping at least.
Let me know how you do, I can't wait to hear!

Let me know how you do, I can't wait to hear! The pco should be coming for the first treatment in a few and i also thought 6-8 hours is kind of unbelievable what also makes me scared is i heard that people pretend to be bed bug pcos then they rob your house of all its valuables. I need to ask what they are using also i hope its not a fogger because i will stop them in their tracks. Glad to hear you are on your way to living bed bug free. Spent the whole day and night just bagging up what i could and putting it in the middle of the room leaving the perimeter clear so they can spray all around. i am concerned because the room in the apartment are really small so the rooms do feel tight but i think everything should be ok. only thing im worried about is the 20 bags of unwashed clothing in the room tightened as tight as they could some are even double bagged. these bags would take a few days to clean im starting hopefully tomorrow on just drying them and locking them up again until 2 months after treatment. i hope these treatments will be my last because living like this is too stressful and unbelievably hard....Good luck on your situation and i will keep you posted.

Is this person licensed? You should only use someone who's licensed. Is your landlord paying for this/arranging it? You shouldn't have to worry about the PCO stealing your stuff! Don't you have a super in your building who can stay there while they treat? I did leave the PCO in my apartment alone the first time he treated, but I have zero to steal and I took all my cash with me. If you have stuff to steal, your super should be in the apartment with the person who's treating it.

You can also buy XL and XXL ziploc bags. I got some with a discount from Soap.com since they give you a discount for your first order. They only have XL ones; I got the XXL ones from Amazon. I also bought some airtight plastic trunks for $40 each from The Container Store; they deliver for $25 in Manhattan and $35 in the outer boroughs. I plan on also keeping the trunks for the hopefully near future for when I move (notice I said "when" not "if" lol).

Yes my landlord is paying for this he hired this guy so idk what to do. Now my mind is racing whether or not this guy knows what he is doing i hope the problem doesnt get worse.

try to relax and see what happens, your landlord is responsible for getting rid of them and will have to continue until they are gone. You can call 311 to complain if you're rent stabilized.
get the PCO to write down exactly what he used

get the PCO to write down exactly what he usedOk now im worried he came and got right to it told me everything he was going to do and i was ok....until he called about 30-40 minutes later telling me he is done O.O is this normal when i came up stairs (he said i could come up after 2-3 hours that the paper just says that just for good measure) it looked like i had been ransacked (nothing was missing) the looked like he had some years doing this. he came with a canister and something in a plastic bag. so back to me coming upstairs when i came upstairs i went room to room to see what he did. HE SPRAYED EVERYTHING I COULD SEE I MEAN DRENCHED. im not mad about it hey if that what you got to do thats what you got to do but i mean from my bathroom to the kitchen every chair table recliner sofa bed bed frame and corner even my carpet in my carpeted rooms are soaked. IS THIS PROPER CARE? im scared i want this to go away quick as possible. I was arguing with my brother before we went upstairs because the guy finished in my mind too quick. My brother went on to state that he is licensed and insured by the state which means he know what he was doing. So im going to see how far this goes and he has to come back i think in a week or two....i just want this to go back to before when no sign at all of bugs my aunt lived here for 60+ years and never had BB just so stressful
