Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » General Topics
feeling so close to a nervous breakdown
(9 posts)-
After being bitten for a few weeks I finally found a nymph on my toddler. Threw away my mattress, headboard, dresser and tons of belongings. I have spent all my money on exterminator, supplies and washing and drying cleaning and still found a nice adult bed bug crawling on my bathroom floor. I have four kids one who is autistic and if she sees one she will start having panic attacks. I m beyond myself. I don't have anymore money left, I have mated out our credit cards and still cannot get rid of them. Idont sleep. I walk around with a bottle of alcohol ...not for drinking by the way....but maybe I should start! Might make things more tenable. I am trying to see the silver lining but all I see is bedbugs. I'm really losing it here. I can't stop crying for hours tonight. I feel so tired, disgusted, alienated and just plain disgusting.

Hello emu,
So sorry that you and your children are going through this.
Do you have any family that you can talk too?
May sound simple, if you can share and get support from somebody that you trust, may be helpfulAlso, considering you have a special needs child, is there a social worker or professional involved, that could help?
You mentioned an exterminator, what did they do for you?
Did they offer a guarantee?
Do you have a landlord tha can help?
These may be questions u have already addressed, no sure.

Oops sent too soon.
Hope things get better

Thanks for your response. I live in my parents home and I do have some support in the sense that they tell me calm.down its not.that bad. They don't seem to bothered by it because they are convinced their room has none. The exterminator said the infestation was so small that it would be easy to get rid of them. I was not that sure but was hopeful. Isn't it weird to see one in the bathroom. We live in a single family home.

We live in a single family home.I lived in an apartment in 2010 that had a light infestation, I did catch a couple in the bathroom about 25 feet away from my bed. The bugs were taken care of with one treatment, so I don't think seeing a bug here and there always means a heavy infestation.
Now, I live in a single family home with my parents and am getting bitten by what I believe to be bed bugs, although I haven't seen one yet (it's only been a week) I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this, wish I could offer some good advice but try and hang in there, tons of experience and support here.

Many PCOs follow up on the first treatment after 10-14 days or so. Did your pco mention a follow-up? Most treatments take 2-3 or even more visits to eliminate the problem
completely. That's not because the treatment isn't working.Did you call the company that treated, tell them you're seeing more bed bugs, and ask for a follow-up? Treatment really needs to continue until they're completely gone. In many cases, multiple treatments are included in the price or a guarantee is given.
It's really hard when the people responsible for treatment (your folks) aren't taking the problem seriously. If your PCO won't provide additional treatment without additional payments, and your parents don't think bed bugs are a big deal, and you can't educate them about this, then you need to try and explore your options.
I would second what was said about asking a social worker if you have access to one. You could might find it helpful to get some support from a counselor, while you're
dealing with this and trying to figure out the next steps. If there's no social worker or counselor involved, consider seeking help from a doctor. It sounds like you really need support to get through this, and you may need someone to help you hook up with professional help.

Knowing that I am not alone makes it a tiny bit better. The PCO charged a third of what I was quoted because I did not have all the money and he saw me so distraught with my special needs child. He said that it would.cost more to so the second treatment but he thought it was not necessary. I'm so embarked to.tell people. My daughter gets therapy at home and I cancelled all week. I do not.know if to tell her

Well, I hope you will reach out to social workers, doctors or others who can help you. This is a stressful situation and you need in-person support.
Try not to be embarrassed. Bed bugs can happen to anyone.
It won't hurt to ask the PCO. The fact is one treatment was not enough and I think you need to tell them or they will assume they got them all. They may even be willing to do more if you reach out.

I am a home visitor for children with special needs. Take my word for it, if your daughter's therapist has been in the field for a while, you're not his/her first family with bbs. You should tell him/her so precautions can be taken. Don't be embarrassed! It happens to many, many families every day. Maybe you could meet with your therapist outdoors or someplace else for a few weeks.
The more I read on this forum, the more I realize I may have to learn to live with the bbs and just try and prevent the bites as well as possible. I am going today to buy some diotomaceous earth and climb up interceptors.
Call your local board of health. Sometimes there is limited funding for families in special circumstances to try and eradicate bbs. Don't stop with local. Go to the state/country level if you have to. Advocate for yourself and see how far you can get.
Try not to let it consume you. It is stressful, but your kids still need some normalcy. Good luck!
