When you find fecal matter on something like wood in a box spring, are you able to smear it with just a finger? Or rather, do you need something wet for it to smear? I keep finding dark spots that look just like fecal to me on the wood in my box spring (this paired with bites and previous exposure has had me worried sick) but most of them smear with me just putting my finger across it.

    Hi,

The answer is faecal can do both.

When freshly deposited it will smear to the touch as it is still liquid. However it is usually quickly be absorbed into a porous surface and start to dry by which point a dry rub will not move it.

You can get some level of confidence from experienced visual confirmation but for self diagnostic you would be better using the bedbug blue feacal trace confirmation kit.

    Hope that helps.
