sorry for my continued paranoia... I've been trying to stay away but unfortunately can not. Vacation came and (very slowly) went. Tried to take all precautions before traveling. Now that I'm back in my apartment, I noticed a black mark on a cloth-like part of my boxspring (it was not covered by my mattress). Just touching it with a dry hand caused a little trailing and wetting my finger led to a little more dragging of the "stain". After a quick rub with water and a paper towel it was gone.

I then found another black stain (a little larger) on my bed sheet (this is the same stain in all three pictures in the attached photo). First two photos are just upon discovery while the third picture is after a saliva "test". Again, after rubbing with water and a paper towel, the mark is not noticeable.

    any insights?

    thanks and sorry again.

Sorry to spam up my own thread, but after trying to (probably incorrectly) reapply talc to my climb-ups, discovered and snapped up 3 photos of another similar stain about 3-4 feet away from the original stain. I haven't tried to wash it off, but given similar characteristics to the original, I assume it would.

    Thanks again.

You're going to put yourself in the funny farm if you don't stop thinking about bugs.

You will not clean up fecal traces on fabric with water and a towel. They will stain into the fabric and not come out. Go relax =) your place has been cleared by a pro ... and we don't miss!

    Dear NYcanon,

Unfortunately, these could be BB fecal stains.

I'd conduct a thorough inspection to find any live BBs asap.

Hope this helps ! paul b.

Sorry Paul, I have to completely disagree, and not just because my company already conducted an inspection. In picture three you can clearly see that mark is not fecal. And as I mentioned above you're not going to wipe fecal traces off that fabric with a paper towel and water.

    OK.

We've been able to "smear/wipe" fecal stains.

Are you saying that this is not possible?

In any case, it would be wise for NYcannon to maintain a level of vigilance and continue to look for telltale signs until such time that the continued absence of BB activity may be used to determine that they are no longer present, if at all.

The OP said he wiped away the spot with water and a paper towel to the point were it is not noticeable anymore.

I agree 100% with you KQ... I'm trying my best to keep sanity... am making progress (I hope).

Thanks also for the information (same to you, Paul)... I'm not trying to discredit or argue the inspection y'all did at all... I'm just paranoid and trying to focus on something more material than just marks on my body.

Regardless, I will try to calm down and relax but will probably (read: i've already ordered it) put up a BB Alert Passive (I mean, why not?!).

Thanks again, all, and happy new year again!

    Dear nycannon,

One of the facets of the BB issue are the affects that BBs have on their victims. Of these, mental duress and related anxiety continue to be a common concern.

While individuals may react and handle this aspect of the BB situation in a variety of ways, the fact of the matter is that none of knows exactly what it is like to be "in that person's shoes" even for a moment.

My observation and experience has been that at times we may need to do our best to help BB victims recover their confidence and positive frame of mind.

In working in pest management since 1976 no other pest has initiates the anxieties experienced by their victims that bed bugs do on a consistent basis.

Over the years numerous people have called me to discuss their pest problems with cockroaches, mice, rats, fleas and others however, rarely would any of these folks be reduced to tears due to those pests as they are with bed bugs.

The professional industry has a great responsibility as these folks are counting on our collective industry for viable help on a daily basis.

This said, I trust that you are in good hands with KQ on your case. And remember, even though I am committed to being a viable resource, those who actually visit your location to see the conditions first hand have a distinct advantage to provide you wit their best advice.

    Yours in pest management,

    Paul B.
