hi. i have had only 2 experiences with bedbugs biting me. they were both extreme and identical in nature. once i got bit on my fingers another separate time on one arm. in both cases i woke up with a numb, and extremely painful arm. there was some local inflamation but there was also red lines coursing up to my underarm lymph nodes. my arm was in so much pain i thought i should go to the hospital. i didn't go either time because i have a fear of hospitals but in retrospect wonder if i should have. someone said it sounded like blood poisoning symptoms(???). the pain lasted for hours and once the inflamation and pain went down the bites themselves were itchy. i cannot find any information on this. does anyone have experience or advice for this? thankyou in advance. sonia

I don't know anything about the reaction you're describing, but anyone with serious reactions to a bed bug bite should go to an Emergency Room right away.

There have been people who had life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock) -- it is rare but it happens. Better to be safe than sorry.

Please please go to the emergency room if you ever have another reaction, your life could be in danger. Serious reactions can be life threatening, don't ignore a reaction this serious.

    violetsonia,
after reading of your reaction, i feel lucky about mine.. none of this is fun... but the single MOST important thing you MUST do is take care of yourself. as the others wrote, seek medical attention when this occurs. Hopefully your bb battle is mtng with success and bites are not happening.

    hugs

I had a severe reaction which ended in anaphylaxis. I now have to carry an epipen as a result of this.

When I get a bite the whole area gets swollen and the bite itself can epand to the size of a silver dollar. I've had swelling over an inch high at the center of the area. One bite is bad enough but if I have a few over a short period of time my immunities are so degraded that any other allergen I inadvertantly introduce into my system could have fatal results. This is what happened with the anaphylatic reaction before. It's extremely difficult for me to be safe as it is, I've got severe food and medication allergies that make my life ridiculously challenging on a day to day basis without dealing with this. The reactions are really hard on my system and it only makes dealing with the cleanup more difficult. Bane of my existence.

Anyways, I can relate. Please be safe and if you have anything like that happen again do go to the ER. The worst that can happen is you waste some time waiting in the triage area. Even then, they can probably give you a perscription for a corticosteroid topical that will help with the insane itching. Best case, something is seriously wrong and you save yourself.

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who has these severe types of reactions.. I was going to write *nice* but that would be the wrong word lol
