I am here to tell you that the range of reaction to bites is huge. One week ago, I woke up with a circular cluster of slightly itchy good sized bumps. My boyfriend told me it looked like poison ivy but it being winter it was impossible. I thought maybe it was shingles (which I have) but just showing up in a different place. About a week later (today) I noticed 3 small, flat, very red marks in a perfect line on my hand. They did not itch, they were not raised and they looked more like burst blood vessels. This evening, convinced that it had to be bed bugs, (my boyfriend thought I was nuts btw) I checked over the bed and sure enough there was a splotch of blood and a dead bed bug. Before I did that though, I spent all kinds of time online looking at bite pictures and typing in descriptions, which really only served to give me doubt due to the fact that my bites looked different than what I was reading and seeing (particularly the ones on my hand). I am thanking my luck at finding a specimen so easily as I had thoroughly checked the bed after the initial bunch of bites and found nothing.

Anyway, I just wanted let everyone know, or at least reiterate the fact, that even your own bites could potentially vary wildly and the only way to be sure is to check your bed etc!!! I moved back to NYC in September and have been basically expecting this to happen eventually. I've been vigilant and I can only hope I caught it early enough. I just keep thinking to myself that if I got them being so aware and careful then I can't even imagine how many people in this city must have them. My boyfriend wants to move. However, it seems like it's only going to get worse everywhere else as well. Ugh.
